Job Summary
Provides comprehensive health maintenance and medical services for members of family, regardless of age or sex within scope of training. Services include preventative care, immunizations, primary care and treatment, health education, prescribing of medications, ordering and interpreting lab testing, physical examinations, and nutrition. Directs outpatient and inpatient care and services and instructs other health care providers within the practice in accordance with The Joint Commission, federal, state, and local guidelines, organizational and departmental policies, and procedures. May be asked to provide training to Physician and Nurse Practitioner students.
STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE
- Maintains a program of comprehensive health for the family unit, including preventive medicine, behavioral sciences, and community health.
- Prepares and reviews medical histories and obtains data through interviews.
- Examines patients, formulates differential diagnostic plans, defines and orders required diagnostic testing.
- Interprets examination findings and test results and implements treatment plans.
- Documents the patient’s visit including physical exam, diagnoses, and plan of action.
- Determines need for consultation and assists in medical care and treatment provided at direction of other specialists.
- Refers patients to medical specialist for consultant services when necessary for patients’ well-being.
- Manages family practice inpatients conducts rounds and prescribes inpatient therapy.
- Participates in surgical, gynecological, and critical care procedures according to training and demonstrated ability.
- Provides supportive and definitive care to patients with serious medical and surgical conditions with appropriate consultation, based on documented and demonstrated proficiency.
- Prescribes vaccinations to immunize patients from communicable diseases.
- Follows up with patient regarding progress in high-risk or emergency cases.
- Promotes health by advising patients about diet, hygiene, and methods for the prevention of disease.
- Determines needs for and advises on kind and quantity of medical supplies and equipment.
- May supervise/oversee the clinical activities of mid-level health care providers.
- Coordinates outpatient and inpatient services with other medical activities.

- All employees must comply with EHS drug-free workplace policy and successfully pass pre-employment and post-employment drug screening requirements.
- All employees must wear proper PPE based on their designated Job Title:
- Materials Management, Environmental Services, and Maintenance staff must wear back brace while lifting anything 25 pounds or higher.
- Care Center direct resident care staff must wear a back brace and gait belt at all times while on duty.
- Clinical staff are required to wear proper PPE designated to their function and duties.
- All employees are required to identify a financial institution for direct deposit of pay before the start of employment and during employment tenure.
Requirements
Education: Education level equivalent to completion of MD or DO from an approved Medical School. Family residency training is preferred. Have a thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of medicine commensurate with his/her training.
Licensure, Certification: Must possess a current, valid unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Georgia, DEA Certificate, and be Board-certified.
Experience: Completion of residency training and/or documentation of clinical practice during the past year required. Two years of ambulatory primary care practice experience is highly preferred.
