What are the responsibilities and job description for the BI Business Analyst position at Strike?
Job Summary:
The Business Analyst will serve as an intermediary between the business community and the technical community working with internal business clients, vendors, customers, and other internal IT groups to collect, clarify, translate, and create business requirements, functional specifications, use cases, etc. This role is based at Strike’s corporate headquarters in The Woodlands, TX and reports to the Business Intelligence Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Position is responsible for providing companywide strategic, analytical, and technical support for Business Intelligence Applications including the Strike intranet based on SharePoint, Tableau, a custom SSRS solution named Prism, Power BI, and SQL Server.
- Partners with stakeholders, process specialists, end users, and vendors to elicit and document business requirements for new applications, defect resolutions, upgrades, enhancements, and other support requests for existing applications
- Elicits requirements using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, site visits, business process mapping, use cases, scenarios, business value analysis, and task and workflow analysis
- Works with the Stakeholders and the Business Intelligence Manager to define the product roadmaps and groom the backlogs
- Evaluates alternate solutions and design processes and systems which includes user impact considerations, cost and benefit analysis, and processing specifications
- Uses current knowledge of business and technology to recommend systems and process improvements
- Performs ongoing monitoring and refinement of supported applications and business processes
- Maintains a high level understanding of how the supported applications integrate with other organizational processes and applications
- Critically evaluates information gathered from multiple sources, reconciles conflicts, abstracts up from low-level information to a general understanding, and works with customers to uncover unmet business needs
- Partners with support analysts, stakeholders, end users, vendors, and customers to conduct user acceptance testing with documented test cases
- Documents user manuals to describe operating procedures, and provides user training, as needed
- Works closely with the assigned project manager(s) and other project resource to deliver high quality applications and process improvements
- Follows all approved Strike PMO and ITSM processes including the use of prescribed templates
Skills:
- Proven ability to quickly learn new applications, processes, and procedures
- Ability to understand business functionality and translate it into application requirements
- Excellent understanding of business complexity, project interdependencies, and system integrations
- Intellectual curiosity and the ability to question thought partners across functional areas
- Strong analytical, problem solving, organizational, and planning skills
- Knowledge and ability to build reports in Tableau and / or Power BI
- In depth understanding of the various software development lifecycles (e.g. Agile, Waterfall, etc.)
- Ability to collaborate in a team environment and exercise independent judgment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Professional image with the ability to form meaningful partner relationships across functions
Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field
- Demonstrated experience in writing requirements and test specifications
- Experience supporting custom and third-party Business Intelligence
- Knowledge of SQL Server, SQL, and XML preferred
