Summary:
Responsible for organizing and coordinating patient level referrals to specialists, agencies and outpatient facilities. Coordinates pre-authorization components and requirements, workers compensation or other disability needs and schedules and assists in scheduling of patient appointments in coordination with peer coordinators and providers.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Formal Education Required:
a. High School diploma or equivalent
2. Experience & Training Required:
a. One (1) year of experience with insurance verification, front desk registration duties or related medical office roles.
b. At least one (1) year experience working with an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system
c. Medical Assistant, Medical Office or Medical Billing experience preferred
3. Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:
a. Knowledge of medical terminology
b. Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 codes
c. Demonstrated understanding of the variations in insurance plans and requirements
d. Ability to manage billing questions, co-pay questions, pre-authorization questions or other related insurance coverage regulations with patient and third party contracted payers
e. Ability to solve practical problems, interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form and to work reliably and with professionalism in a high-volume, high-demand medical environment.
f. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and e-mail. Prefer skills in using referral software, using health plan web sites and familiarity with electronic medical records.
g. Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team.
h. Ability to interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding for their needs for self-respect and dignity
