Database Analyst is responsible for designing and creating metadata, database architecture and data repository. Develops and maintains company's data repositories and related data marts. Performs data mining and analysis. Determines business information needs, identifies and documents system requirements. Analyzes business intelligence data and provides reports or dashboards as required. Acts as liaison between information technology and business units. Ensures data accuracy. Assesses data extraction, report generation and bugs appearing in operations involving the data warehouse. Develops, maintains and enhances reporting for the credit union working with IT management and end users directly. Drive self-service BI adoption. Performance tunes, troubleshoots, system monitors and administers database servers.
Essential Functions
- Program complex SSIS packages to unify separate data sources into a single warehouse.
- Design, administer and support in-house and industry standard database, business intelligence and analytics tools, including Microsoft SQL Analysis Services.
- Automate and optimize routine processes associated to SQL server, SSIS, and data exports.
- Document all standard operating procedures related to SQL environment.
- Lead efforts to standardize how data is structured, defined, and retained within the data warehouse.
- Resolve issues to restore service and maintain optimal performance.
- Assist in the management of vendors involved in suppling source data, maintenance of the SQL environment, and systems displaying data outputs.
- Responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting complex report requests utilizing multiple data sources.
- Work with different areas of the business to identify data needs, translate into technical requirements and create output able to be understood by all levels of staff.
- Interprets results using a variety of techniques, ranging from simple data aggregation via statistical analysis to complex data mining independently.
- Correlate data results to real world business impact.
- Manage support desk ticket queues and application requests.
- Architect and implement enterprise database design for high availability and disaster recovery.
- Manage infrastructure and operation changes such as SQL server upgrades, code migrations and application/infrastructure upgrades.
Additional Functions
- Assist with additional projects and other duties as assigned by departmental leadership.
Job Specifications
- A minimum of five (5) years of hands on experience in IT operations with a strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles and practices.
- A minimum of three (3) years of hands on experience with Microsoft SQL server, including Analysis Services (SSAS).
- Experience designing ETL processes.
- Experience writing reports and fulfilling reporting requests for business users. Hands on experience with Microsoft PowerBI (or similar BI tools) is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Must have experience with replication, mirroring, archiving, query tuning and database design.
- Must have an understanding of DNS and TCP/IP networking, storage area networks (SAN), MS clustering, virtualized environments, DCP, DTS or SSIS, reporting/SSRS, and data warehousing.
- Knowledge of reporting, query tools and practices.
- Knowledge of SSIS packages.
- Experience automating SQL jobs and administrative tasks.
- Migration knowledge on SQL server platform.
- Experience with multiple database platforms is strongly preferred.
- Experience in a supporting a financial institution a plus.
