Compensation: $62,000 - $81,375 (depending on experience)

Overview

The primary objective of the Maintenance Planner is to plan and schedule both routine and outage maintenance work. Additionally, the planner will work to improve the efficiency and productivity of the maintenance workforce, service companies and contractors. This will be accomplished by providing the employees with detailed job plans, technical specifications, machine history, parts and tools lists. The planner shall work in an organized manner while utilizing the latest inspection and condition monitoring information. The Maintenance Planner is also responsible to provide all the necessary information to ensure that all work is completed in a safe, efficient and timely manner and in compliance with environmental requirements.

Roles & Responsibilities

The Maintenance Planner is responsible for preparing all planned activities that must be executed by employees, service companies or contractors. In this role, the Planner will work closely with the Maintenance organization on the following tasks and responsibilities in order to reinforce day to day preparation and job planning:

  • Check the validity of the work requests and gather all pertinent information.
  • Improve the content and quality of information on work orders.
  • Add additional pertinent information to the work order to ensure comprehension by the technicians.
  • Work with Maintenance Inspectors and Supervisors to clearly define the scope of work to be performed. Establish the preparatory work required prior to scheduled equipment downtime.
  • Develop a detailed job plan with all the work sequences involved to efficiently & effectively complete the repairs, as well as equipment downtime and man-hours required.
  • Determine and list all the safety procedures associated with the work to be performed.
  • Develop a tool list specific to the job to be performed.
  • Provide a parts list with reference numbers and exact location for every work order and ensure that all required parts are in stock before job scheduling.
  • Ensure all technical specifications and special instructions are provided to Supervisors and technicians.
  • Provide pertinent machine history information with the job plan.
  • Determine the cost involved for parts/supplies and labor for each work order.
  • Ensure that once a job is completed, the work order is filled out properly and that pertinent information is entered into the machinery history file.
  • Coordinate with the Purchasing Manager for ordering non-stock parts and materials as required by the job plan.
  • Inform the Maintenance team when a job is ready to start.
  • Develop and update Preventative Maintenance inspections.
  • Plan the weekly Maintenance schedule.
  • Lead daily Maintenance priorities and close out meetings, and weekly planning meetings with other departments.
  • Establish and maintain with the Supervisors and the Stores Department, a system for proper storage of pre-works and parts for pending work.
  • Work with the Storeroom Supervisor to update and maintain the equipment parts catalog, as well as, develop equipment tool list for jobs.
  • The Maintenance Planner will work with the Storeroom Supervisor to review and update parts stocking strategy.
  • Be responsible to improve and maintain the equipment files and history (paper and electronic).
  • Review all existing master plans and ensure that they are up to date and contain all pertinent information.
  • In collaboration with the Purchasing Manager & Storeroom Supervisor, the Maintenance Planner will ensure that the inventory and sources of spare parts are consistent with the Continental Cement standards, plant equipment reliability and economic constraints. The Maintenance Planner will also ensure materials and parts conformity upon receipt.
  • MAXIMO Computerized Maintenance Management System experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Project, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Perform 24/7 On-Call Maintenance Supervisor responsibilities as scheduled.
  • Supervise a crew of Maintenance Technicians and Contractors during Outages and on occasion.
  • Provide and document MSHA required Site Specific Safety Training as needed.
  • Assist the Maintenance Team with the preparation of the annual budget.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Experience

  • The Maintenance Planner must have at least a post-secondary level education in a technical school or equivalent. If he/she does not have a post-secondary degree, then a minimum of 5 years maintenance experience or maintenance planning experience in an industrial/manufacturing work environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Resiliency and the ability to lead others is required.
  • Must be computer literate with Microsoft Office Suite (Project, Excel, PowerPoint etc.) and have a working knowledge of a maintenance planning system such as MAXIMO.
  • Cement Industry maintenance experience with the ability to evaluate and facilitate repairs to complex state-of-the-art cement manufacturing equipment preferred
  • 5 years or more maintenance planning experience preferred
