What are the responsibilities and job description for the Structural Steel Detailer position at Summit Steel Inc.?
Summit Steel is seeking a full time Structural Steel Detailer experienced with SDS/2 detailing software or similar steel detailing software. The successful candidate will have a strong knowledge of developing a complete and accurate set of fabrication drawings. The candidate shall also have strong communication skills with the ability to provide detailed and organized documentation on multiple projects. The candidate shall be able to work as a team in a close knit, small company environment and must also be well driven and motivated with the ability to detail a project independently and accurately. The ideal candidate would be dedicated, detail oriented, dependable, technically minded, and above all else willing to learn. Summit Steel uses industry leading software such as SDS2, Bluebeam Revu, and Microsoft Office products but due to the unique nature of our work, on-the-job training will be provided to the candidate.
This position is moving fast, and candidates must be able to start right away! Candidates with 5 plus years of recent experience are preferred, but we are willing to train the right person!
The Job Duties and Responsibilities Include:
- Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings
- An eye for detail and specifics
- Ability to complete drawings within budget and time constraints
- Coordination with external contractors and vendors
- A degree or certificate in drafting, modeling, SDS/2 or similar software is beneficial
- Strong understanding of building components and structural systems
- Ability to analyze design documents, steel erection, and fabrication drawings
- A working knowledge of construction and fabrication means, methods and procedures
- Strong math, visualization, & problem-solving skills
- Strong computer skills with a great attitude!
Qualifications:
- 5 plus years of recent experience is preferred
- Experience with SDS/2 detailing software or similar detailing program
- Must be extremely detail oriented and specific task driven
- Must have excellent communication skills with a positive attitude!
- Bachelor’s Degree is desired but not required. Experience with SDS/2 is highly desired.
This position must be able to work with sensitive detailed information in a professional and confidential manner. The employee should possess excellent communication skills both verbally and in written form, should be very organized and logical, and should be able to multi-task and work on several big and small projects at one time.
The position will also maintain records of all documentation, file materials, manage data entry and set up databases and other relevant data information. Word processing skills, spreadsheet and database experience is essential. Being detail oriented is essential.
