We have an exciting opportunity open for a Cathodic Protection Technician based in Pine Bluff, AR.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Cathodic Protection (CP) Technician is a specialized designation. As a subject matter expert on Cathodic Protection, the CP Technician is responsible for all facets of corrosion prevention duties on pipeline systems including cathodic protection, internal corrosion control, atmospheric corrosion control, protective coating and linings, materials selection, and design/project support. This position provides an elevated level of administrative and technical support in the area of corrosion control and pipeline integrity for a region and/or operating systems.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Performs field data gathering activities, including test point checks, rectifier readings, bond readings, and analyzing pipe to soil results.
  • Proficiently utilizes corrosion related testing equipment including multi-meters, reference electrodes, current interrupters, current mappers, pipe and cable locators, chart recorders, data loggers and other test equipment is required.
  • Conducts cathodic protection pipe to soil surveys, inspections and investigations and analyzes data
  • Performs stray current interference tests with ability to correct identified interference issues
  • Assesses, repairs, and monitors shorted casings
  • Inspects and maintains cathodic protection equipment
  • Prepares as-built sketches and redlines existing drawings
  • Designs, maintains, and replaces rectifiers and ground beds. Provides work direction/oversight to crews performing close interval surveys.
  • Designs internal corrosion chemical injection and monitoring equipment.
  • Interprets internal corrosion (IC) data from coupons and liquid sample collections.
  • Inspects facilities for atmospheric corrosion. Performs remedial actions according to data results.
  • Evaluates pipelines for corrosion and other defects. Performs corrosion defect assessments.
  • Ensures compliance with all Company policies and/or procedures associated with pipeline integrity/corrosion control including Operator Qualification requirements.
  • Oversee and perform work and inspections of pipeline coating activities.
  • Maintains all records and completes required reports related to cathodic protection systems.
  • Achieves and maintain all qualifications, certifications, and progression requirements applicable to the job classification.
  • Designs and installs gas pipeline protection systems, including installation of conventional ground beds and sacrificial anodes, when required.
  • Troubleshoots the Cathodic Protection system to determine repair needs
  • Ensures the design, maintenance, and construction requirements meet Regulatory requirements established by Municipal, Parish, State, and Federal authorities.
  • Ensures compliance with DOT, OSHA, and Company standards pertaining to corrosion control, investigations, operations, and maintenance in general.
  • This position is considered a DOT Safety sensitive position and is a part of the random drug testing pool.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Requires a minimum of two years’ experience in natural gas distribution construction, including cathodic protection and/or corrosion control.
  • NACE Level 1 certification, preferred.

  • Able to operate a motor vehicle
  • Strong time management practices to respond well to changing priorities
  • Ability to solve problems with logical solutions by applying knowledge, skills, and experience
  • Must have basic knowledge of computers for inputting data on completed work orders and responding to emails.
  • Know how to use a variety of hand tools such as wife cutters, drills, hammers, screw drivers, nut drivers, wrenches, and shovels.
  • Able to use a variety of equipment such as a locator, probe bar, voltmeter, pipeline current mapper, soil resistance meter, and short locator.
