The Company
Superior Ready Mix is a family owned and operated business since 1958. We manufacture and deliver concrete, asphalt and aggregate to contractors and homeowners in Southern California. We are searching for a qualified Quarry Manager for operations in San Diego.
The Position
A Quarry manager is responsible for the overall operation, production, maintenance, quality and safety of the quarry and plant operations. A quarry manager is also responsible for managing and scheduling onsite personnel including the wellbeing and safety of all outside vendors, suppliers and trucking companies associated with quarry operations.
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following items:
Plant
- Oversee all plant and quarry operations.
- Maintain production goals.
- Perform regular plant inspections to ensure equipment is safe to operate and in proper working condition according to company standards and all regulatory agencies
- Schedule and monitor plant repairs and personnel required for repairs.
- Order/purchase necessary items within a timely manner to ensure continued operational success and to minimize downtime.
- Ensure best pricing of required stock for future items.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Superior Ready Mix policies and applicable laws
Equipment
- Coordinate with mechanic shop manager(s) to keep equipment running safely and efficiently to reduce downtime.
Employees
- Ensure operators fill-out equipment daily write-ups.
- Ensure all operators are fully trained and qualified to operate assigned equipment
- Resolve employee issues using appropriate coaching, counseling and disciplinary action
- Responsible for timekeeping and attendance of all plant employees.
- Responsible for mentoring, encouraging and growing future leaders.
Safety
- Monitor plant cleanliness/housekeeping and schedule grounds-person or other necessary personnel to maintain cleanliness.
- Ensure all equipment is operationally safe, clean and in proper working condition according to company standards, and all regulatory agencies.
- Follow company procedures for “on the job injuries” (worker’s compensation), modified work schedule, or working limitations.
- Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all areas of work.
- Conduct necessary safety meetings to ensure company safety regulations and policies are followed.
- Coordinate with Safety manager to enhance training and schedule new miner and/or refresher training.
- Complete repairs to items documented during safety manager inspections.
Quality Control
- Ensure all products are produced within quality guidelines.
Regulatory/Compliance
- Follow all regulatory agency rules, i.e. CalOsha, MSHA, APCD, Hazmat/Fire, Stormwater, etc.
- Maintain all necessary reports/logs i.e. Production, Stormwater, blasting, etc.
- Follow all company policies or procedures.
Skills:
- Manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Working computer knowledge
- Working knowledge of industry
- May require the ability to repair machinery using hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment
- Complete all required reports timely and accurately
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years quarry management experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required
- Good people skills, developing and maintaining a positive relationships with co-workers, neighbors, and community.
- Experience with regulatory & environmental agencies, documentation, policies, and permits.
- Able to set operational goals and objectives.
- Enforce company safety rules and conduct safety meetings as needed
- Solid understanding of aggregate processing and equipment.
- Solid understanding of quarry reclamation & mining plans.
- Able to lead by example
- Able to get work done through others using effective delegation
- Motivate employees to highest potential and earn their respect
- Provide continuous, constructive feedback through direct reports
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
