Mobility Engineer

As a Mobility Engineer, you will be at the forefront of designing, developing, and releasing cutting-edge engines, drivetrain, suspension, and cooling systems, subsystems, and components. Your responsibilities will include:

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Mechanical Design Engineering: Innovate and lead the mechanical design engineering of power packs, drivelines, and suspension systems to meet customer requirements and specifications.
  2. Electrical Design Engineering: Spearhead electrical design engineering for power generation systems, ensuring compliance with customer requirements and specifications.
  3. Control System Engineering: Contribute to the development and refinement of control systems to optimize vehicle performance.
  4. Performance Analysis: Conduct electrical power generation performance analysis for both low voltage and high voltage electric machines, including generators.
  5. Mobility Performance Evaluation: Analyze and evaluate vehicle mobility performance, identifying potential issues and recommending improvements.
  6. Vehicle-Level Performance Requirements: Derive performance requirements at the vehicle level and develop and release engineering design specifications.
  7. Concept Development: Innovate by developing alternative concepts and providing support or performing trade study analyses.
  8. Component and Subsystem Integration: Design, select, and integrate mobility components and subsystems for seamless functionality.
  9. Attribute Allocations: Track and manage weight, cost, thermal, power, and other attribute allocations.
  10. Technical Documentation: Develop and maintain Technical Data Packages (TDPs) and release drawings according to the Engineering Release Plan (ERP).
  11. Proposal Preparation: Prepare essential documents, including Statement of Work (SOW), Critical Item Development Specification (CIDS), Interface Control Document (ICD), and Source Selection Plan (SSP) for Request for Proposals (RFPs).
  12. Supplier Management: Manage supplier design development progress, technical action item lists, and communication, including virtual and on-site interface with suppliers.
  13. Technical Oversight: Provide technical oversight and direction to suppliers during design development and validation, ensuring compliance with performance, test, and design requirements.
  14. Technical Reporting: Prepare comprehensive technical reports and proposals, presenting at formal Design Reviews.
  15. Laboratory Engineering Evaluations: Conduct engineering evaluations in a laboratory environment.
  16. Issue Resolution: Investigate, respond to, and implement corrective action for production, supplier, or field issues.
  17. Prototype Support: Support prototype builds, create test plans, execute tests, and generate test reports to validate designs, mitigate risks, and troubleshoot problems.
  18. Collaboration: Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, exchanging technical information, and providing direction to designers and prototype shop personnel.

Requirements:

  1. Educational Background: Bachelor's Degree in a relevant Engineering Discipline; Master's degree viewed favorably.
  2. Professional Experience: 5 years of Powertrain engineering experience, with a significant focus on 3 years of relevant Hybrid Electric or Electric Powertrain experience (PHEV, HEV, or EV).
  3. Skills and Abilities:
  • Perform preliminary design and analysis.
  • Work effectively in an Integrated Product Team environment, communicating across functional organizations.
  • Troubleshoot vehicle subsystems and perform failure analysis.
  • Write technical reports and modification instructions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Work Environment: Must be adaptable to work in office, shop, test lab, and test site environments.

Additional Information / Desired Experience:

  1. Security Clearance: This position may require eligibility to obtain a US security clearance (Non-US Citizens may not be eligible).
  2. Ground Combat Vehicles: Previous experience working on ground combat vehicles is desired.
  3. Physical Requirements: Ability to climb on/off, work in, and around military vehicles is desired. Must be able to pass ASR test (Anthropometric Size Requirement for confined space).
  4. Flexibility: Must be able to work occasional evening and/or weekend overtime as required.
  5. Standards and Test Requirements: Familiarity with military standards and test requirements is desired.
  6. Travel: Occasional travel to test sites may be required.
