Surgical Notes is hiring for a Flex Medical Coder to provide accurate and timely coding for our ambulatory surgical clients. This position has the flexibility to work a fully flexible schedule that is most convenient for the coder! Work whenever you want and how often you want to work (anything under 30 hours per week)! The ideal candidate has excellent organizational skills, communication skills, with the desire and ability to learn quickly. Working as a part of the team to meet deadlines, but also being able to work independently is crucial to the success in this position. Reports to: Manager, Coding
Responsibilities:
· Review operative reports to abstract information and apply CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM codes
· Verify LCD/NCD information as appropriate
· Utilize NCCI edits, AMA CPT Assistant, AHA Coding Clinic, and other resources as needed
· Initiate physician queries as needed
· Escalate coding/documentation problems when appropriate
· Participate in ongoing coding education
· Perform other related duties as required/assigned
· Other responsibilities as assigned
Role Information:

· Completely Flexible Work Hours Under 30 hours/week Monday - Sunday
· Remote: The minimum bandwidth requirements are 10 Mbps upload and 50 Mbps download speeds. The recommended bandwidth requirements are 20 Mbps upload and 100 Mbps download speeds.
Productivity Bonus in Addition to Hourly Rate
· Paid by piece rate:
· $1.00/level 1 case coded $2.25/level 2 case coded $3.50/level 3 case coded
· Productivity Bonus = Reports Coded Earnings (from list above) minus (-) Hourly Wages
Job Requirements:
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Education:
· High School Diploma or equivalent
· Coding certification through AAPC or AHIMA (CPC, COC, RHIT, CCS, etc., no apprentice designation accepted at this time)
· 2 years outpatient surgical coding
· Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team
· Strong attention to detail and speed while working within tight deadlines
· Exceptional ability to follow oral and written instructions
· A high degree of flexibility and professionalism
· Excellent organizational skills
· Outstanding communications skills; both verbal and written
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Education:
· Associate Degree in healthcare related field
· 4 years Ambulatory Surgical Center coding experience
· Experience working in an Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC)
· Strong Microsoft Office skills in Excel, Outlook, and Teams
Physical Demands:
· Sitting and typing for an extended period of time

· Work environment of a traditional fast-paced and deadline-oriented office
