What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Control position at Sustainable Harvest?
Please note: This role requires the applicant to report to the office 5 days per week.

Job Summary: The Quality Control role will contribute to Sustainable Harvest’s vision by ensuring the quality, accuracy, and timeliness for each shipment of coffee by coordinating green coffee samples. The Quality Control position is responsible for supporting green coffee sales by managing the daily flow of green coffee samples in the lab.
Primary Objectives:
- Sample coordination: Work with origin, trade, and traffic teams to coordinate the inbound and outbound flow of green coffee samples.
- Lab maintenance: Maintain the organization and cleanliness of the Seattle Cupping Lab.
- Sales support: Work with traders and roasters to support specialty green coffee sales.
Core Responsibilities:
Inbound Samples:
- Receive and organize inbound samples (sign for, open, organize all deliveries)
- Enter inbound samples online
- Prioritize samples for roasting
Outbound Samples:
- Send outbound offer samples to roasters within 24 hours of request
Maintain storage and organization for PSS, Offer, Type samples
Generate sample labels (PSS, Origin Offer, Spot Offer, Arrival)
Prepare sample shipments and coordinate courier pickups.
Sample Roasting
- Roast daily sample allotment according to SCA Sample Roasting specifications
- Maintain Ikawa cleanliness and functionality.
- Develop & modify roast profiles as needed.
Cupping Support:
- Setup and breakdown daily cuppings according to SCA protocol.
Lab maintenance:
- Maintain the supplies, equipment, and cleanliness of the cupping lab.
- Manage equipment maintenance and calibration on a regular basis.
Weekly to monthly responsibilities:
- Assist with public cuppings and lab events.
- Assist with private cuppings for roasters
Projects and professional development:
- Opportunity to calibrate and contribute to daily cupping scores in the near or long-term depending on experience.
Qualifications and Skills:
The ideal candidate will be
- Hard-working, detail-oriented, curious, a creative problem-solver, able to learn, and comfortable working independently.
- Able to manage a fast-paced work environment.
- Customer service oriented.
Ideal qualifications include:
- Proficient in MS Excel
- Proficient in data entry.
- Knowledge of specialty coffee.
- Strong written and verbal communicator.
- Q-grader, SCA taster’s pathway, Exchange grader, COE judge and other professional coffee sensory credentials not required, but a huge plus!

Compensation: Comprehensive benefits package; salary range 55k – 65k, negotiable depending on experience & qualifications.
