JOB SUMMARY
The Sutter County Agricultural Department is seeking Ag Field Assistants to join their team! These are seasonal positions that will run from various dates in late spring through fall, depending on assignment.
Under supervision, Ag Field Assistants perform a variety of field assignments in agricultural programs.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other related duties may be required and assigned.
- Sprays for noxious weeds; learns how and assists with loading, mixing, and safely applying the proper herbicide to the desired plant pest; assists biologist in pest detection collecting insect and weed pests; assists in the placement of insect traps; and performs related work as required.
- Assists in performing seed field inspections; identify plant diseases; collect and submit seed field samples.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: Equivalent to some general maintenance work involving physical work and driving light-duty equipment.
Knowledge of: Basic knowledge of mixing herbicides and pesticides, including safe handling.
Ability to: Work in fields; handle materials safely; learn to assist biologists in their assignments; work independently; drive trucks. Possess a valid California Driver's License.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Essential Duties require the following physical skills and work requirements:
Requires the ability to perform on-site field inspections including exertion of a moderate amount of physical effort to stoop, crouch, climb and lift in performance of assigned duties; ability to work around toxic substances in a safe manner; may be subject to uncomfortable working conditions including exposure to dust, noise, heat or cold; requires the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
License or Certificate: Must possess and maintain an appropriate valid California state driver's license.
