Evaluates, selects, and applies sound engineering principles, simulation techniques, and critical thinking in making adaptations and modifications to improve design concepts. Assignments may begin to have less defined end objectives. Develops own thoughts and ideas into viable and manufacturable design modifications with minimal guidance from supervisor, analysts, or other engineers. Also, when appropriate, develops experimental methods to confirm relationships between simulation predictions and the performance of physical prototypes. Teaches other engineers how to use analytical methods and software to verify and optimize product designs to meet both technical and quality requirements.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Model creation by building or transfer existing parts or assemblies from 3D CAD.
- Collaborating with engineers to define analysis objectives and gather information required to perform analysis.
- Knowledge and skills in engineering design analysis and first principles testing, such as stress, fatigue, contact stresses, flow, load-to-seal, and torque-to-load.
- Performing all types of analysis including linear, non-linear, multi-body, thermal and dynamic.
- Knowledge and skills in basic statistics and design of experiments (DOE)
- Participating in project meetings or technical peer reviews to provide appropriate recommendations.
- Working with product design engineers to interpret the results and improve the design.
- Creating alternative designs or engineering solutions for moderately complex problems that cannot be solved through textbook or Code calculations.
- Developing test plans to verify accuracy of models. Correlate analysis results with product test results to establish reliable and accurate modeling techniques.
- Creating formal reports, documenting results, and supporting design phase reviews.
- Expand personal skills to improve our virtual design assessment capabilities.
