Sweetland’s Crew Leader works closely with the Head Farmer, Vegetable Production Manager, and Equipment & Livestock Manager to help the farm crew implement the wide-ranging tasks typical of a mid-sized diversified farm. The Crew Leader is in charge of motivating and supervising a crew of 5-7 people in the greenhouse, field, or wash/pack. The Crew Leader takes responsibility for the well-being, happiness, and productivity of the crew. In practice, this means getting to know the individual needs of the farm crew, understanding and clearly communicating expectations for the task at hand, gathering the appropriate tools for the task at hand, and setting an example of attitude, attention to detail, and efficiency. Attention to detail, an efficient and strong work ethic, an understanding of the philosophies and goals of the farm, great communication skills, and the capacity to effectively lead a small crew are essential and expected attributes. This position requires a minimum of 1 year prior experience on a working farm.

Crew Leader Requirements (in addition to all Farm Crew Requirements)
- Basic knowledge of planting, harvest, cultivation techniques
- Familiarity with Sweetland Farm’s systems & infrastructure (training provided)
- Interpersonal skills & ability to give clear, concise instruction
- Attention to detail
Crew Leader Responsibilities
o Manage physical implementation of mangers’ work plan
o Train, oversee, and motivate field crew, volunteers & interns
o Set an example of and cultivate a culture of hard work, attention to detail, positive attitude and teamwork among field crew
o Make sure the job gets done to the standard expected
o Train field crew in efficient, safe, industry standard practices for specific tasks
o Gather necessary tools, supplies & materials for task at hand
o Initiate & maintain work momentum
o Ensure crew health & safety needs are met(med kit, water bottles, bathroom breaks, safety training)
o Collaborate with Head Farmer and managers on regular team-building activities (eg after work ice cream, swimming trips, morning meeting exercises, etc)
Crew Leader Schedule & Remuneration
Weekdays 8am-5pm, occasional weekends required
Starting wage $13.50/hour plus a Brimming Basket CSA share
