What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sterile Processing Manager position at Swope Health Services?
The Sterile Processing Manager provides oversight for the central sterile processing department at Swope Health. The role includes daily operational management, associate development, and ensures adherence to Swope Health policies and procedures which are in line with HRSA, Joint Commission, AAMI standards. The Sterile Processing Manager requires specialized knowledge in sterile processing techniques and management practices for medical and dental services.
Successful Candidates with have:
- Manages, organizes, and schedules associate workflow and assignments to ensure appropriate instrument turnaround times.
- Supervises, evaluates, and develops systems for key department processes including ordering of supplies, storing/organizing inventory, delivery of instruments, inspecting, decontaminating, sterilizing, and cleaning of reusable items, disposing of non-usable items, correct packaging and labeling, proper loading and unloading of sterilizers and washer/disinfectors, monitoring and maintaining records of sterilization cycles, assembling and packaging.
- Ensures all instructions for use are up to date and housed appropriately within the OneSource database.
- Provides supervisory support during all shifts.
- Monitors department financial performance to budget and addresses negative variances.
- Evaluates and addresses operational issues and the quality of sterile processing services, including writing and updating policies and procedures and other applicable reports.
- Assesses skill set/competency, identifies educational needs and is responsible for the training and evaluation of sterile processing associates.
- Manages ongoing staff development and training.
- Participates in huddles and regular staff meetings.
- Develops and implements ongoing continuous improvement practices for sterile processing department.
- Ensures compliance of sterile processing services with industry standards and regulations for sterile processing.
- Works closely with the Director of Infection Prevention and Control on process improvement opportunities.
Education/Qualification:
- High School Diploma
- Must possess a valid Class B or C Commercial Driver’s License with passenger endorsement from the state he/she resides in.
- Four years of progressively responsible central sterile processing procedures, supply, and inventory experience required.
- Lead technician role or other equivalent leadership role preferred however years of experience in large hospital or outpatient setting may be substituted.
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) required. In process certifications will be considered.
- Additional leadership certifications preferred.
