SUMMARY:
The National Safety and Compliance Manager ensures everyone in the company complies with health and safety laws. The National Safety and Compliance Manager is responsible for establishing policies that will create and maintain a safe workplace. As a subject matter expert, this role will develop and implement safety programs, enforce policies, conduct training, inspections, audits, and job safety analysis to ensure compliance with the TEC Safety Program, local, state, federal and various regulatory agencies. Travel required 60% of time.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Developing and executing health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines
- Preparing and enforcing policies to establish a culture of health and safety within a warehouse/industrial environment
- Evaluating practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law

- Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention
- Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations
- Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions
- Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes and handle worker’s compensation claims
- Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures
- Report on health and safety awareness, issues and statistics
- Assist in the management of third-party safety verification organizations document and data requirements to ensure qualification for new account bids and continuation of existing accounts.
- Support the development and implementation of various data system to collect and report compliance status to management; providing technical support for implemented technologies to the field to assist in their adoption.
- Conduct accident investigations and near miss reporting.
- Identify root causes and recommend corrective/preventive actions
- Maintain compliance with all OSHA Recordkeeping requirements.
- Lead regularly scheduled safety audits, risk assessments, inspections, training and meetings to determine the effectiveness of safety and accident prevention activities.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to the VP of Manufacturing & Distribution
Directly supports new site rollouts and existing staff within existing distribution and manufacturing accounts.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EXPERIENCE:
- 5 -10 years of related experience as Safety Manager within a warehouse environment
- You will also be able to discover opportunities for improving conditions and execute various safety programs.
- The ability to communicate guidelines to a multidisciplinary workforce is essential
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Proven experience as safety manager
- Deep understanding of legal health and safety guidelines
- Ability in producing reports and developing relevant policies
- Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
- Excellent organizational and motivational skills
- Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities
- Experience creating and implementing safety programs from cradle to grave.
- In-depth knowledge of and experience with federal and state regulations pertaining to Health, Safety (OSHA), Working knowledge
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
- BSc/BA in Safety Management or related field
- Must be a Certified Safety Professional or have a valid qualification in Occupational Health and Safety
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Ability to travel 60%
- Frequently required to bend, stoop, and kneel.
- Must be able to lift and/or move 50 pounds.
- Ability to communicate orally with customers, vendors, management, and other co-workers is crucial. Regular use of the mobile smart phone and e-mail for communication is essential.
- Hearing and vision within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information, and to prepare or inspect documents.
- Must be able to operate forklifts/pallet jacks as needed.
- The job is performed in a distribution warehouse when not working from home office.
