SUMMARYOF ROLE
TheInformation Specialist serves as the primary greeter andinformation provider to all visitors and locals visitingDestination Salem.
Information Specialists are expected to behelpful and knowledgeable about Salem and its attractions includingshops restaurants museums walking tours and special events.
Information Specialists work as a team to support visitor servicesthe retail shop and Destination SalemOperations.
ESSENTIALDUTIES
- Greetvisitors and locals in a friendly and helpful manner by providingassistance and answering questions.
- Maintainup to date knowledge of local travel and tourism opportunitiesincluding travel routes historic sites parks and recreation andspecialevents.
- Provideand share relevant and uptodate information to visitors andlocals.
- Recorddaily visitorcounts.
- Respondto visitor inquiries via phone calls in a friendly and courteousmanner.
- Sellretail merchandise.
- Operatea computerized point of sale system / cash register and handle creditcard and cashtransactions.
- Receiveand manage the center s retail inventory withaccuracy.
- Organizeand manage retail displays.
- Prepareinformation packets for mailing tolocals.
- Refervisitors and locals to advertiserbusinesses.
- Stockand maintain an inventory for all local brochures andpamphlets.
- Assistin daily cleaning tasks of thecenter.
- Workwithin a team in all duties andresponsibilities
- Performsother duties asassigned.

MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS
- Highschool diploma or educational equivalent.
- Retailsales experience ispreferred.
- Abilityto successfully pass a background check and other preemploymentscreenings.
- Abilityto work weekends evenings andholidays.
- Basicknowledge of computers word processing modern office practices andprocedures
