Location/Schedule:

Tallgrass has a flexible working environment that offers employees the option to choose from compressed weeks with half-day Fridays or every other Friday off and Hybrid options for specific roles. We currently can hire for this position from the following locations: Houston TX and surrounding areas. The pay range listed for this position is a good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting.  

We are seeking an experienced Manager – Ammonia and Hydrogen Technology who is aware of all the steps needed from conceiving an oil & gas/ petrochemical project to its final implementation and handing over to plant operations.  Experience in Ammonia/ Hydrogen/ Syngas projects with carbon capture is essential.  Tallgrass Project Management Teams are responsible and accountable for the delivery of best-in-class capital projects. PMT is directly involved in executing and managing assigned projects safely, on schedule, within budget and to the highest standards of integrity and compliance. This will involve leading engineering, design, procurement, and construction of various sizes ($), types and complexity of small, medium to multi-billion-dollar mega projects.

The successful candidate will evaluate hydrogen and/or ammonia production technologies, lead/review FEED studies, and assist Project Management Organization for various decarbonization projects.  The individual may also provide engineering recommendations for the transportation of hydrogen, ammonia, CO2, and other products related to decarbonization.

The role will require support of a wide range of services including feasibility studies including:

  • Master-planning
  • Strategy development
  • Business case configuration
  • Analysis
  • Technical due diligence
  • Providing input and details on scope, execution, and schedule for Blue Hydrogen and Ammonia Study Projects.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Close coordination with the Tallgrass stakeholders viz. Commercial team, Legal, Communications, Finance, HR during the phase up to FID (Final Investment Decision) and in the project implementation phase as necessary.
  • Leading all aspects of the providing technical leadership for multiple decarbonized H2/ syngas production projects (SMR/ ATR etc.)viz. 
  • Effective coordination with Tallgrass stakeholders viz. Commercial team, Legal, Communications, Finance, HR 
  • Process Licensor/s selection, finalization of ISBL/ OSBL/ Infrastructure configuration, 
  • Appointment and interaction with financial advisor and coordination with financial institutions and their technical advisors during pre-FID and implementation phases, 
  • Selection of FEED (Front End Engineering Design) contractor with a view to Freezing of plant concept and cost/ schedule estimates,
  • Finalize strategy of Owner’s procurement,
  • Defining project implementation organization (ISBL, OSBL, Infrastructure etc.)
  • Project implementation including closing of all Contracts,
  • If the projects involve production of downstream products to syngas production (e.g: ammonia), lead the syngas production project team within the overall project.
  • Setting up Owner’s teams to cater to all program aspects stated above and plant operation.
  • Oversees, motivates, and monitors the performance of the team, ensuring quality and timeliness of assignments and roles.
  • Create strong collaborative team environment by establishing common vision, setting clear expectations and accountability. 
  • Ensure deadlines are set and met.
  • Provide leadership and direction to project team that may be comprised of internal and external service providers including but not limited to PDs/PMs, Project Engineers, Planning Engineers, Operation Engineers, and Environmental Engineers to ensure project success.
  • Deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy, and professionalism.
  • Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully.
  • Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance.
  • Other daily, weekly, monthly, or special project duties as identified and defined.
Other duties as assigned.


Minimum requirements:

Education:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Chemical Engineering, from an accredited university with 15 years’ experience would be considered. A management qualification will be an added advantage.

Experience/Specific Knowledge:

  • Chemical Engineering degree or equivalent
  • 15 years of relevant process engineering and/or operations experience
  • 10 years of relevant experience with Hydrogen, Ammonia, Syngas, methanation, etc.
  • Experience working multi-functional, multi-cultural teams
  • Experience and knowledge of Hydrogen, Ammonia, and methanation technologies and the integration with supporting unit operations (compression, storage) and utilities (water, power, etc)
  • Experience with yield, OPEX and CAPEX estimation for Hydrogen and Ammonia.
  • Experience with the following is a significant bonus to this position:
  1. Syngas generation and cleanup,
  2. Reforming (ATR and SMR),
  3. Blue-hydrogen and Ammonia,
  4. Carbon-capture and relevant technologies, such as BASF, UOP
  • Process modelling knowledge using Aspen/HYSYS.
  • Experience with PetroSim, PetroPlan UniSim, HTRI, and PROII are a plus.
  • Must be able to understand the needs of the business unit(s) for which development work is being performed.
  • Strong analytical skills and logical thought processes.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize daily work, including tracking and managing large projects, and see projects to completion while maintaining strict confidentiality (as necessary).
  • Ability to effectively deal with international companies, diverse nationalities, and cultures.
  • Must possess general understanding of how corporate policies, procedures, practices, and processes relate to the Pipeline business segment, associated business units and internal and external customers.
  • Understanding of basic economic analysis as it pertains to project justification.
  • Ability to identify and establish expectations in an employee/employer relationship (subordinate/manager).
  • Solid leadership, communication, motivation and interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage projects(s) that will include working with individuals with varying disciplines, backgrounds, and experience levels.

Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

Working Conditions:

  • Most of the typical workday is spent in an office environment, though this may change depending upon the location assignment.   For work performed out of doors, weather conditions vary and can be extreme, depending upon location assignment and may include severe seasonal changes which are primarily influenced by geographic location.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with fellow workers and demonstrate adherence to established safety policies and procedures.
  • Required to carry a cell phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.
  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit report for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

Above the minimum requirements, not required but advantageous in this position:

  • Training in project management software and techniques including project scoping and estimating utilizing work breakdown structures, cost and schedule control systems, design and construction management, team building, resource planning, procurement, and permitting is a plus.
