What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sous Chef position at Taru?
Taru is a new and modern Japanese restaurant located next to the Baccarat Hotel and across the street from the Museum of Modern Art. Nestled behind the dining room is an intimate 10-seat omakase room that houses a seasonally-rotating residency of omakase chefs serving their own unique style of cuisine.
We are seeking a sous chef or junior sous chef to join our close knit kitcfhen team. This is a heavy cooking position with minimal office time. Candidate is expected to by example, be a team player with a can-do attitude, and exhibit desire to learn and take directions well.
Position requirements:
Availabilty for full time work week
New York restaurant experience preferred but not required
Knowledge of basic Japanese cuisine preferred but not required
Culinary school degree is strongly preferred as this position requires rudimentary knowledge of cooking and plating techniques and is expected to perform basic to complex mathematical skills in calculating food cost, labour cost and inventory tallies

Ability to take direction from BoH and FoH managers
WIllingness to execute on multiple cold and hot stations

Salary : $65,000 - $80,000
