The Iron Pourer is responsible for the operation of hand-controlled mechanisms to pour and regulate the flow of molten metal into molds to produce castings.
This position has a minimum starting rate of $23.66/hour, increasing to $26.80 after 21 months of training.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Be able to determine iron requirements for a ladle (class & weight)
- Receive hot metal from delivery ladle
- Skim slag from pouring ladle
- Take and record temperature readings and add chills as required
- Keep pouring basin full throughout the completion of the pour
- “Pig” excess iron
- Insure preheat of ladle
- Chip slag from ladle spout
- Adhere to all safety and health standards
- Position weights on mold as required
Requirements
Critical Competencies
- Must be able to operate electric hoist to move metal ladle in a safe and efficient manner
- Must be able to control the pour of metals into molds
- Must be able to take temperature readings and maintain required records
- Ability to measure quantities of material to be added to the ladle
Education and Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Successful completion of TB Woods PIV/Forklift License training and certification required upon hire
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
Physical Demand and Work Environment:
Work environment includes regular exposure to noise levels at or above 85 decibels, dust particles, and constant exposure to extreme heat. Some work stations require use of a respirator. Work is done from an elevated platform. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be required to be worn during shift.
Physical requirements include lifting up to 50lbs, standing for long periods of time, good hand and finger dexterity, and ability to lean, bend, twist, and reach. Incumbent would be required to walk on inclines and climb stairs to and from the elevated platform.
