TDA Research, Inc., located outside Denver, Colorado with research offices in Wheat Ridge and Golden, is seeking a Hazardous Waste Specialist. The company has a staff of over 100, which consists of mainly engineers and scientists who develop cutting edge chemical processes, materials, and hardware for customers in the defense, aerospace, energy and chemical industries. The Hazardous Waste Specialist will assist with the development and implementation of training and response programs to ensure safe handling, storage, transport, and disposal of hazardous materials. TDA already has a Small Quantity Generator plan in place. The Hazardous Waste Specialist will coordinate TDA’s switch to Large Quantity Generator status. All tasks will be done under the general supervision of the Manager of Safety.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Develops programs for the safe handling, storage, transport, and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials.
- Conducts inspections to ensure workers are complying with environmental and safety regulations and guidelines.
- Provides training on applicable hazardous waste regulations and guidelines.
- Creates and implements emergency response plans.
- Oversees and facilitates emergency response plan in the event of a hazardous spill or release.
- Maintains current knowledge of hazardous waste regulations, updating response plans to comply with new regulations and amendments.
- Disposes of surplus materials as required.
- Coordinate and manage Lab Packs.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Extensive knowledge of hazardous material removal procedures and techniques.
- Training in RCRA, DOT waste shipping and hazardous waste manifests.
- Ability to be trained as a fork truck operator.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to write hazardous waste response plans and procedures.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
- Possession of a valid Colorado driver's license and clean driving record.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Biology, Chemistry, or related field preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience in a LQG setting directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
- Additional years of related experience may be substituted for educational requirement.
Physical Demands:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Conduct inspections, carry equipment, and climb ladders.
- Work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
- Able to be fitted for and wear a respirator as needed – no facial hair for fitting
- Lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
Full-Time ; Hourly Rate: $24.50 - $33 plus the complete benefits package.
In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, actual compensation is subject to variation due to factors as education, experience, skill-set, and/or location.
