What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle School Principal position at Teach Iowa?
2021-2022 School Year - Southeast Valley Middle School Principal
Southeast Valley Schools is looking for a Middle School Principal that is a proven leader with excellent communication skills.
Southeast Valley Schools is made up of Prairie Valley and Southeast Webster Grand. We are currently in the 7th year of a whole grade sharing agreement. The agreement is going well, and we will be voting on consolidation in March. The two districts have a certified enrollment of 1,100 students and is extremely stable financially. Class sizes range from 75 to 100. Typically, we have 4 sections for each grade level. We currently have a free and reduced rate of under 50%. Each building offers 1 to 1 devices to enhance the existing curriculum.
Our school districts are located in central Iowa, south of Fort Dodge. Both districts are within 25 miles of Fort Dodge, 50 minutes from Ames, and just outside of an hour from Des Moines. We have a small school feel, but are close enough to metro areas. We believe this is an excellent community to raise kids.
We are a rural school, with 4 buildings: 2 elementary schools, a middle school and a high school.
Dayton Elementary, a 2019 Blue Ribbon School winner, educates students PK-4, as well as operating a daycare facility. Additionally, Prairie Valley Elementary also educates students PK-4 and is located a few miles north of Farnhamville. Both of these elementary schools feed to Southeast Valley Middle School in Burnside. The high school is located in Gowrie and houses grades 9-12. As a district, we employee approximately 100 teachers and 200 total school year employees.
The middle school building itself used to be a high school that possesses many amenities that many class 2A middle schools do not have. For example, the middle school has its own all-weather track, football field and competitive gymnasium that it does not need to share with the high school. Our students are also afforded the opportunity to have their own FCS kitchen, industrial tech, art and technology areas.
We are very proud of the fact that we have strong supports in place to meet individual and group needs, especially for a school our size. Our support services at the middle school include a full time Dean of Students/Instructional Coach, a full-time Title 1 teacher, a full-time behavioral interventionist, full-time guidance counselor, as well as a full-time social worker. In addition to the middle school specific support roles, the district has a full-time curriculum coordinator that is working with our 4 principals and superintendent to adopt new curriculum for academics as well as social/emotional growth.
Although we are considered a rural school, we offer a very competitive salary and benefit package to our employees. This includes a retirement pension (IPERS). We also offer full dental, vision, and multiple health insurance plans (Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield) to choose from.
In an effort to streamline the process, we are open to applicants sending their application material directly to us or you may apply through TeachIowa. If you would prefer to send your information to us directly, you may send your letter of application, resume, references, most up to date professional license, and the teacher application located on our website at the following link: https://www.southeastvalley.org/district/employment-opportunities (you will not need to complete the questions on #10 of the application)
