The Machinist II uses Manual Machining equipment to fabricate parts to a specific drawing. This position must have significant understanding of overall machining practices with an extensive background in manual machining applications. The materials that are used consist of castings, tubing, bar stock, extrusions, steel, stainless steel, titanium, brass, aluminum, many different plastics, and the modification of off the shelf store bought parts.
- Ability to use appropriate tools safely for turning and milling operations of various jobs
- Uses precision tools, machinery and equipment such as lathe, vertical milling machine, band saws, chop saws, grinders, and a variety of cutting tools and equipment.
- Inspect and document features of the machined part (while in process and final inspection) with use of inspection equipment. Perform in process inspections using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and other common measuring instruments to verify part conformance.
- Good knowledge of manual machining applications including OD/ID turning, grooving, single point threading, boring, tapping, and surface milling on vertical manual mills.
- Ability to work in a production and prototype work environment.
- Review and understand blue-prints with working knowledge of GD&T
- Assess and apply appropriate machining solutions per instructions to both new and current manufacturing processes and rework of existing parts
- Maintain shop equipment (inspect, document, and fill oil and coolant levels daily, clean equipment)
- Other applicable duties, as assigned or required
- Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to produce high quality machined parts with minimal supervision
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years of machine shop experience
- Dedicated manual machining experience
- Must have setup, prototype, and production experience in close tolerance machined components
- Must have a good understanding of tool geometry/ application/ speeds and feeds
- Ability to read blue-prints
- Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T)
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment effectively while meeting deadlines
- Ability to work overtime as required
- Demonstrated ability and desire to work in a results-driven, collaborative team environment
- Excellent communication skills, and the ability to interface with other machinists, CNC programmers, Quality Control, planning, and managers
- Ability to positively apply constructive feedback
- Self-motivated and takes initiative
- Excellent work ethic and dependability
- Ability to effectively use problem solving and troubleshooting skills
- CNC operation a plus
