Description : 1.0 FTE Middle School Librarian at Teeland Middle School
Class Summary : To provide access to information, to provide formal and informal instruction on information skills, to make recommendations on instructional planning to individual teachers, and to provide assistance in school-wide planning of curricular and instructional activities to enhance the education of each individual student.
Provide an introduction to various genres of literature, along with supporting reading by providing students with skills and enthusiasm for accessing books and digital literacy.
Provide training and tools for using information resources and attaining digital literacy, and serve as a valuable resource for both teachers and students.
Duty No.
Essential Duties 1 Evaluates, selects, catalogs, classifies, schedules, and utilizes materials and equipment in the library.
2 Recommends the library budget, policies, and procedures to the principal based upon an evaluation of library needs. Recommends changes as necessary.
3 Assists teacher and students in the effective use of instructional equipment and materials. 4 Works with individual students and with groups of students to improve library media skills.
7 Provides in-service training to teachers in the use of instructional equipment and materials. 8 Analyzes and evaluates the present library program and participates in long-range planning for media services.
9 Understands and supports the overall educational goals of the school and district through the library media program. 10 Promote a positive image of school district and positive public relations at all times.
11 Follow district approved procedures for selection, acquisition, circulation, sharing of resources within the district.
12 Complete training for using and maintaining the library automation system. 13 Evaluate new resources and promote existing district and state-level resources.
Model and promote digital literacy and citizenship skills and ethical use of information. 14 Prepare, present, and implement the school library budget with support of the school administration.
15 Prepare and present reports to administration and school community including : circulation, budget, collaborative projects, programming, etc.
16 Train, preparing work for, and supervise students and volunteers working within the school library program. 17 Participate as an active member of decision making teams in the school.
18 Maintain a cooperative relationship with administration, staff, students, parents, community and where applicable, local public libraries.
19 Share expertise by presenting at faculty meetings, professional development sessions, parent meetings, and school board meetings as applicable.
20 Assist teachers and students in the effective use of instructional equipment and materials, focusing on writing across the curriculum, evidenced-based writing, student research, and digital citizenship and digital literacy.
21 Create a dynamic learning space in the library that fosters creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking among students and staff.
22 Support the overall educational goals of the school and district through the library media program, promoting literacy, research skills, and digital citizenship.
23 If needed, librarians might be asked to teach research, evidenced-based writing, or seminar courses that support school-wide writing, reading, and research initiatives.
24 Other duties as assigned.

Skills (position requirements at entry)
Training and Experience (position requirements at entry) : Successful teaching experience, Librarian experience preferred, M.
L.S. preferred. For High School positions technology knowledge, to assist students and staff with available and extensive technology in the Library.
Licensing Requirements (position requirements at entry) : Current Type A or Type C Alaska Certificate, endorsement as Media Specialist or Librarian.
Holds a valid TYPE A teaching certification, endorsement, or masters in Library Media for K-12 is preferred, but NOT required
Physical Requirements : Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and / or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
If the use of arm and / or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker stands and sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
