Job Title: Public Health Educator
Location: Nashville, TN
Shift: Day (8 hrs.)
Duration: 5 months contract with possible extension
Description:
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Public Health Educator to join our team in promoting health awareness and implementing educational initiatives within the community. As a Public Health Educator, you will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and evaluating programs aimed at improving public health outcomes and reducing health disparities. This role requires strong communication skills, a deep understanding of public health principles, and the ability to engage with diverse populations.
Responsibilities:
Program Development: Collaborate with stakeholders to design, develop, and implement public health education programs and initiatives targeting improving immunization rates and vaccine confidence in Tennessee.
Community Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, schools, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders to promote health education and outreach efforts. Organize community events, workshops, and seminars to disseminate health information and resources.
Health Promotion: Develop and distribute educational materials, resources, and campaigns to raise awareness about childhood, adult, and perinatal immunizations. Utilize various channels including social media, websites, printed materials, and presentations to reach diverse audiences.
Needs Assessment: Conduct community needs assessments, surveys, and data analysis to identify health priorities, disparities, and barriers to health equity. Use findings to inform the development and targeting of health education interventions.
Training and Workshops: Provide training sessions and workshops for community members, healthcare professionals, educators, and other stakeholders on topics related to public health, health promotion, disease prevention, and health literacy.
Advocacy: Advocate for policies, programs, and resources that support public health initiatives and address social determinants of health. Engage in advocacy efforts at the local, state, and national levels to promote health equity and improve population health outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Education, Community Health, or related field.
- Strong understanding of public health principles, theories, and evidence-based practices.
- Experience in program planning, implementation, and evaluation within a public health or community setting.
- Excellent communication and public speaking skills, including the ability to effectively communicate complex health information to diverse audiences.
- Ability to collaborate and work effectively with interdisciplinary teams and community partners.
- Knowledge of health behavior theories and behavior change strategies.
- Experience with community engagement, outreach, and partnership development.
- Commitment to health equity and cultural competence.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification as a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES).
- Experience working with underserved populations and addressing health disparities.
- Bilingual proficiency in languages commonly spoken within various communities (e.g. Spanish, Arabic, Kurdish)
- Intermediate proficiency in Research Electronic Database Capture (REDCap) with experience in survey creation, sending surveys/communication through alerts, and creating and utilizing report functionality.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Canva with experience creating multiple work products (i.e. flyers, one-pagers, posters).
