EXTERNAL CONTACTS: Auditors, Donors, Funders, Contractors, Community Groups, Volunteers & as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree required in Accounting or Finance or related field and 4 years related experience required. Will also consider commensurate experience. Strong communication (verbal and written), presentation & interpersonal skills. Skilled in Word, Excel, Blackbaud, Paycor and other computer programs/softwares related to duties.

KSA's: Working knowledge of accounting principles. Ability to apply principles of logic, fiscal management, and accounting to effectively solve complex and practical problems. Ability to apply algebraic and statistical principles to data for interpretation. Advanced reading comprehension skills including the ability to analyze and interpret documents such as financial reports. Skilled in forecasting, trend analyses, etc. Ability to assess departmental policies and make recommendations to ensure comprehensiveness, alignment with agency strategy and priorities, and adherence to accepted accounting principles. Advanced oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office programs (Word, Outlook, Excel), Blackbaud accounting software, and Paycor payroll software. Ability to follow complex instructions, prioritize and organize work. Ability to prepare projections and interpret financial reports. Ability to occasionally work nights or weekends. Culturally competent and able to move seamlessly among people of widely varying backgrounds, ethnicity, and orientations.

Essential requirements: Must be a licensed driver with access to own vehicle. Must be eligible to be insured under Tender Mercies’ vehicle insurance policy and carry own vehicle coverage meeting minimum state requirements. Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, standing, walking, breathing, concentrating, climbing stairs, bending, pulling, reaching, reading and interpreting, critical thinking, visual acuity, and performing manual tasks.

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The Finance Manager is responsible for the accounting function of the agency including, accounts payable, payroll, cash receipts and disbursements. Prepare financial statements and financial reports. Prepare annual budget in collaboration with the CEO and various budgets and reports for outside grantors and supporting agencies. Effectively monitor adherence to the fiscal constraints of the Agency in a manner which is legal and in accordance with accepted accounting principles and make recommendations to the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operations Officer and in line with maintaining a low risk of loss to Agency property or assets. Interfaces with the Board Treasurer and CEO to keep the Board of Trustees fully informed on agency’s financial health and on issues which may affect the viability and sustainability of agency operations. Works with the agency’s outside contract CPA to facilitate internal reviews.

DUTIES:

  • Apply principles of accounting to analyze financial information. Compile financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts documenting business transactions.
  • Audit contracts, orders and vouchers of individual transactions prior to settlement and make payment.
  • Prepare monthly and year-end financial statements.
  • Coordinate annual outside audit. Present findings and implement changes where necessary.
  • Establish, modify, document and coordinate implementation of accounting and accounting control procedures.
  • Apply principles of budget accounting to analyze past and present financial operations and estimate future revenue and expenditures to prepare budget.
  • Advise COO and CEO concerning property and liability insurance coverage needed and other items that impact the agency finances as needed.
  • Prepare reports/contracts and budgets as required by city/state/federal agencies and other funding sources.
  • Coordinate and oversee Agency payroll. Prepare employee pay data reports and year-end 1099, w-2G and W-2 forms.
  • Record and balance purchases or fees, donations, and employee reimbursements, including maintaining spreadsheets for such.
  • Reconcile or note and report discrepancies found in records.
  • Maintain financial records of special projects/ fundraisers.
  • Code documents according to company procedures
  • Administer and review employee benefit reporting and billings from vendors.
  • Serve as primary liaison with the Finance Committee, coordinate monthly meetings and prepare financial reports to the Board of Directors.
  • Participate in development and implementation of agency policy and procedure.
  • Attend A Team meetings and all other scheduled agency meetings.
  • Attend training sessions and other management meetings as assigned.
  • Assist with grant writing and other fundraising events as needed.
  • Provide budgetary feedback to department directors.
  • Collaborate with Development Department to coordinate consistent recording of agency gifts and support; analyze special event reports reflecting progress, adverse trends and make appropriate recommendations or conclusions to assure continued financial stability of the agency.
  • Oversee and assist with annual reporting requirements not limited to forecasting and variances between the budgets and actual period statements.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned or as needed.
