We have an opening for an Dean of Students at Southwest Tennessee-Macon Cove campus!
This position requires
a minimum of 37.5 hours per week. Additional hours may be required. The DOS may
be required to work from of any Southwest
location and may work some hours remotely. After-hours or weekend work may be required. Some
occasional local, regional, and/or national travel may be required. Southwest Tennessee Community College is a
comprehensive, multicultural, public, open-access college. Southwest began operation on July
I, 2000, through legislation that consolidated Shelby State Community
College and State Technical Institute
at Memphis.

This role will be responsible for the following:
Essential Job Functions:
Dean of Students
- Serve as the primary representative to coordinate, implement and assess initiatives related to student life.
- Work collaboratively to ensure a holistic student experience that supports all students in identifying and achieving their academic, personal, and/or career goals through engagement with the college.
- Analyze data related to strategic objectives; proactively assess effectiveness of programs and offices in response to student and institutional needs.
- Engage colleagues in development, submission, and management of proposals related to student success.
- Work extensively across institutional divisions and closely with Institutional Effectiveness & Research and Academic Affairs to accomplish the strategic retention and graduation goals of the college.
- Champion Achieving the Dream strategic implementation to increase student success efforts for the college, including co-chairing the Equity & Inclusion Sub-Council of the Student Success Council.
- Evaluate and infuse appropriate tools and practices for improved communication and tracking of students.
- Ensure staff/departments provide outstanding customer service to students, families and others.
- Oversee the strategic implementation and training for the college's student success platform and ensure use of system to strategically support academic and career advising as well as other college support units.
- Ensure compliance with retention and disposal of records as prescribed by TBR and as required by FERPA, SACSCOC, Department of Education, and other agencies.
- Serves on standing and ad hoc committees, including but not limited to advisory boards, hiring committees, staff senate, or as a student organization advisor.
- Co-Chairs college's Commencement Committee.
- Attends departmental, divisional and college-wide meetings as appropriate or required by supervisor.
- Performs other related duties as required or assigned by the Vice President of Student Affairs.
Special Assistant to the Vice President
- Support the VPSA in advancing the Division's strategic priorities.
- Provide leadership and executive support of Student Affairs office (e.g., promote shared vision among student affairs departments; write proposals, protocols, and procedures; chair/staff committees; ensure staff have knowledge, tools, and resources to meet college goals).
- Undertake wide-ranging project management and leadership of initiatives and projects supporting the goals of the VPSA, the division, and the college.
- Coordinate special initiatives/projects/events as determined by the VPSA, including but not limited to assessment planning and administration of institutional scholarships.
- Assist with development of programs/services that enhance the student experience, including efforts to recruit, retain, advise, mentor and develop students at the college.
- Assist VPSA with management of grant programs, including the Title III grant.
- Continually assess the student experience to identify and address student needs through formal/informal activities (e.g., surveys, focus groups, other forms of data collection).
- Ensure adherence to deadlines and use of appropriate communication plans for projects.
- Assess inquiries, determine proper course of action and delegate appropriately.
- Investigate issues/complaints (e.g., fact-find, consult with involved parties) and ensure they are addressed promptly and appropriately. Keep track of progress until resolved.
- Help with the production of key reports for the Division.
- Proactively identify ways to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Division.

Position Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- A master's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- At least five (5) years of progressive experience in student services at a higher education institution (advising, career services, disability services, student activities, student leadership, student support programs, etc.).
- Supervisory and budget management experience.
- Experience partnering with enrollment services offices (recruitment, admissions, financial aid, records, etc.)
- Ability to use technology for managing student persistence, retention, completion, and transition.
- Strong technical, organizational, and data management skills.
- Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills; outstanding listening and relational skills.
- Experience working within an urban community college setting.
- Demonstrated experience leading an institution-wide student success initiative.
- Experience with planning, evaluation, and reporting program outcomes.
- Ability to lead and manage a large team across multiple offices and at multiple locations.
- Experience writing and/or managing grant-funded projects.
- Ability to demonstrate concern for satisfying one's external and/or internal customers; quickly and effectively solve problems; and present a cheerful, positive manner with students and the college community.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions:
The Salary Range for the position is: up to $85,000/year
