Laboratory Technician Position:
Terravive is looking for a highly skilled Laboratory Technician to join our growing team and contribute to several innovative efforts at Terravive that are changing the world. The ideal candidate will have a background in biology, chemistry, or environmental science and biobased and compostable materials. The candidate will be required to follow ASTM D6400 testing procedures for composting. The candidate will be comfortable building an active compost pile, testing biodegradability, writing technical reports as well as contribute to press releases. The successful candidate will also be required to take ample notes, photos and videos as well as participating in Terravive’s fun and exciting Compost Bin Challenge, beginning May 1, 2022 (www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn: li: activity: 6919315746997063680).
Responsibilities:
- Constructing an active compost bin in accordance with the following standard (ASTM D6400 and ASTM D6868) and purchase all requisite equipment
- Testing materials for biodegradability by observing the rate at which they break down relative to each other in the compost.
- Taking ample photos, notes, and videos of the biodegradability process.
- Writing a technical review of the results
- Assisting in writing the Press Release announcement with results
- Participating in Terravive’s Compost Bin Challenge
This is a part time position with flexible hours and the hourly pay is $28/hour. Terravive is headquartered in Richmond, VA so central Virginia location is preferred. This work can be completed from May 1 – November 30, 2022 with a flexible schedule from Monday - Friday. Full time opportunities are available based on performance and workload at Terravive.
