What to Expect

Responsible for the integration of industrial and commercial utility systems controls into new and existing facilities, including PLC and SCADA logic programming, database creation and maintenance, instrumentation configuration/calibration, and commissioning. A strong background in mechanical and chemical systems Instrumentation & Controls design, and construction, is required for this role. Proven ability to develop scalable architecture for facility-wide SCADA systems with a focus on operator needs and utility usage reporting to assure the responsiveness, reliability, serviceability, and efficiency of those systems meets the highest standards.

What You'll Do
  • Maintain strong integration & communication with all internal and external stakeholders to ensure lessons learned are integrated into current and future facilities
  • Directly responsible for all PLC and HMI development to integrate and develop innovative control solutions, as well as participation in the I&C design process required for the projects you are assigned to
  • Participate in initial equipment conceptual development, carefully balancing product specifications, process control requirements, layout complexity, cost, quality and lead-times
  • Provide input into the development of Sequence of Operations (SOO) documents and functional control specifications
  • Lead design validation practices including NormOp and HazOp analysis
  • Onsite support for multiple sites during the construction and energization of all Instrumentation and Controls equipment, as well any mechanical, chemical, or electrical equipment that have factory or field installed controls systems
  • Manage Database, Server, Folder architecture
  • Review and provide comments and feedback for ongoing design projects to ensure lessons learned and user needs are incorporated in the completed design package and specifications
  • Audits facilities Instrumentation and Controls performance as well as systems operational issues/impacts in order to provide process or system modifications that can provide meaningful value
  • Manages and audits design services performed by consultants including preparing RFP scope and independent cost estimate, critically reviewing consultant proposals, negotiating cost, ensuring schedule/budget compliance, auditing scope conformance and quality, and reviewing consultant performance
What You'll Bring
  • 4 or more years of experience as a hands-on Controls Engineer or Applications Engineer working on automation and/or electromechanical systems in a wide range of project types: industrial, mission critical/data centers, high tech/R&D, bio-tech/pharmaceutical, or battery manufacturing
  • Advanced proficiency in modern text-based programming languages (Python, Java, C, VB). Advanced proficiency in database systems (MSSQL, MySQL, Access). Advanced proficiency in programming industrial process and manufacturing equipment
  • Experience with: Human Machine Interface (HMI / GUI - Ignition, Siemens Comfort Panel, AB Panelview, FactoryTalk, LabView), PLCs (Siemens, Allen Bradley, GE, Koyo), Field bus Networks (ProfiNet, DeviceNet, Ethernet/IP, Safety rated field bus networks), Serial communication (RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, ProfiBus, BacNet) between PLCs and instruments and microcontrollers, Selecting appropriate circuit protectors, wire and cable, sensors, safety hardware, PLC hardware, remote I/O, VFD and instrumentation, programming and tuning variable frequency drives.
  • Understanding and familiarity with control and operation of many of the following systems: Electrical Metering, Thermal Oxidizers, Air Scrubbers, Dust Collectors, Heat Exchangers, Chillers, Cooling Towers, Boilers, Pumps, Air Handling Units, Terminal Units, Fans / Blowers, Pumps, DOAS Units, Control Valves and Instrumentation, Hazardous Exhaust, Dehumidification Units, Heat Recovery Systems, Air Compressors/Dryers, Energy Savings Equipment, Electrical equipment, MV & LV Electrical distribution, Hazardous chemical & waste storage/containment/conveyance
  • Ability to travel domestic and international
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proficiency creating detailed process, electrical, pneumatic and fluid schematics in CAD (AutoCAD). Revit experience is a plus
  • Strong data and analysis, troubleshooting, and teamwork skills
  • Capable of managing multiple complex projects simultaneously and directing and overseeing junior staff work for same projects
  • Experience with any of the following: Profibus, Modbus, Kepware, MySQL, & High Performance HMI best practices
