What we want We are seeking an Assistant Director, who under general direction, oversees the HECM Student Affairs Division. The Assistant Director is a leadership administrative position that reports to the Executive Director at the Texas A&M University Higher Education Center at McAllen. Responsibilities include overall leadership and coordination and direction of programs, services and administrative operations. This position also functions as a liaison with community and campus resources. What you need to know Location: McAllen, TX Salary Range: $71,219 - commensurate (Based on education and experience). Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Six years of progressively responsible management and/or coordination experience in student affairs or related field. Preferred Education and Experience: Master’s degree in education, educational administration, or student affairs administration. More than six years of experience in student affairs and/or health promotion related work, including some supervisory experience. Required Licenses and Certifications: Class C Drivers License or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Strong written, oral, and digital communication skills. Demonstrated management skills and the ability to lead and supervise others effectively. Familiarity with contemporary risk management issues and practices in complex higher education settings. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to collaborate with and achieve results through the work of others. Understanding of and vision for the important role student affairs plays in promoting a comprehensive learning and living environment. Ability to manage complex situations and multiple responsibilities simultaneously, mixing long term projects with urgent or immediate demands. Demonstrated effectiveness in building and sustaining partnerships. Ability to develop and manage budgets, plan strategically, assess and evaluate programs and services. Job Responsibilities Leadership - Serves as a part of the department leadership team. Provides leadership for the HECM Student Affairs Division to include: front desk operations, the HECM Student Ambassadors Program, Health and Wellness Programs, off-campus student housing, student life programs, student clubs and organizations, new student and family programs, Disability Resources coordination, and Title IX and Clery Act compliance at HECM. Oversees long-term strategic planning, program evaluation and assessment, office budget, development, directing/supervising programs, liaising, and coordination of area contributions to the department annual report. Coordinates and supports all HECM Student Affairs Division assessment coordination and information technology needs to include oversight of department inventory management. Represents the department in appropriate activities on and off campus in addition to participating in state, regional, and national organizations. Oversees all aspects of assigned program areas. Monitors compliance with all unit, department, University, and government standards, policies, and procedures. Develops reports, analyses, and surveys as requested by the HECM Executive Director. Provides leadership for department along with and in absence of the Executive Director. Manages and provides oversight to the program area budgets. Participates in departmental budget reviews. Handles special projects as assigned by the Executive Director. Supervision - Directly oversees the hiring, training, and evaluation of assigned staff, graduate assistants, practicum/internship student(s), and student employees. Student Support & Office Programs - Supports and advocates for HECM students throughout their educational experience. Oversees Student Affairs Programs at HECM. Serves as primary contact for the Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) and Student Behavioral Intervention Committee (SBIC) between TAMU and HECM, responding to concerning behavior, relationship issues, student rules/grievances, absences, and transition issues. Consults with faculty, staff, students, and parents on topics including, but not limited to concerning behavior, university/community resources, student rules and absences. Supervises the coordination of Campus Experience programs, Family Engagement programs, TAMU Traditions programs, Student Employment Awards and other large campus programs produced by the HECM while working with other staff, as needed. Collaborates with the Disability Resources Office and HECM faculty and staff to ensure accommodations for students with disabilities. Partners with stakeholders across the university and the McAllen community to implement programs, opportunities, workshops, and events. Stakeholders and Liaising - Maintains positive working relationships with office and division stakeholders including all TAMUS and TAMU main campus colleges/schools/departments affiliated with the TAMU HECM. Maintains positive working relationships with local community schools, private sector and local government entities. University/Division/Department Duties - Serves as a representative on Department, Division, and University committees and task forces, at events, and to department stakeholders as assigned.
