Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 2 years of experience coaching or mentoring
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience collecting and recording data
- Ability to create reports by analyzing and interpreting data
- Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database applications
- Experience utilizing effective project planning techniques to break down tasks and ensure deadlines are met
- Ability to work with predictive analytics products such as Student Success Collaborative or Starfish
- Experience working with diverse individuals and communities
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master’s degree or higher in counseling, education, social work or a related area
- At least three years of demonstrated experience in academic coaching or career counseling, college admissions, supplemental instruction or teaching experience
- Demonstrates sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, including those with disabilities
Responsibilities:
- Advising - Provides a high level of customer service support to students. Assumes primary responsibility for early intervention, implementation, and follow-up for students assigned to the University. Conducts one-on-one coaching sessions with students to develop strategies that promote student success, specifically focusing on developing skills in time/stress management, goal setting, creating study plans, preparing for tests, utilizing individual learning styles, career literacy/planning, and other student success skills and strategies. Assists students in establishing goals for high levels of engagement towards academic progress and success. Monitors academic progress towards degree completion. Assist students with faculty contact. Instruct students in appeal procedures. Monitors student's knowledge and understanding of campus resources and ability to access them. Act as student's advocate when appropriate.
- Program Administrative - Coordinates scheduling of tutorial services and maintains records of student interactions with support resources. Monitors and evaluates peer-assisted study sessions. Ensures that the supplemental instruction sessions are carried out effectively, efficiently, consistently, and collaboratively in all aspects of programming. Performs other duties as assigned.
