Job Description

Position: Educational Diagnostician

Division: Special Education

Status: Exempt

Location: Virtual


SUMMARY: The Educational Diagnostician is responsible for coordination, planning and preparation of compliance documents for students eligible for Special Education services. The Educational Diagnostician is responsible for participating in or chairing/co-chairing ARD meetings virtually.

Educational Diagnosticians at TXVS are full-time employees, hired, supported, and evaluated by the Special Programs Manager. Responsibilities will include the following:

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of procedures for assessing achievement and intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functions for education purposes, including cross-battery evaluation practices
  • Knowledge of prevention and intervention strategies, including behavior management interventions  
  • Knowledge of psycho-social development 
  • Strong consultation skills for conferencing with teachers, parents, and students 
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to manage multiple requests, deadlines, and priorities

Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Special Education or Education from accredited college or university
  • Texas Educational Diagnostician Certificate
  • Texas Special Education certification
  • At least 1 year experience as a campus Educational Diagnostician preferred
  • eSped experience preferred

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Receives student referrals and implements the assessment and evaluation process within required state timelines;
  2. Using federal and Texas Education Agency (TEA) regulations, selects and administers formal and informal assessments to determine student eligibility for special education services;
  3. Works with TXVS academic staff to collect and organize student assessment data, and continually evaluates the assessment program, making changes based on findings;
  4. Conducts classroom observations and student interviews;
  5. Coordinates and participates in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist with interpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement for students, and develop Individual Education Plans (IEP) according to district procedures;
  6. Assists classroom teachers with implementation of student IEPs;
  7. Partners with parents concerning the educational needs of students and sharing of assessment data;
  8. Partners with academic team to enhance work with students;
  9. Develops and maintains effective relationships with students and parents;
  10. Assists in the selection of assessment materials and equipment;
  11. Provides staff development training in assigned schools to assist academic team in identification and understanding of students with disabilities;
  12. . Maintains current referral lists, and referrals for related services evaluation; maintains communication among assessment, service providers, and related services personnel. 
  13. Maintains thorough documentation regarding any significant problems with ARD Committee procedures; attends Special Education Department staff meetings; attends relevant professional development.
  14. Receives student referrals and implements the assessment and evaluation process within state limitations.
  15. Facilitates meetings related to special education and  referrals including transfer and transition meetings.
  16. Coordinates outside agencies with the needs of the student and in alignment with the Individual Education Plan (IEP), this includes scheduling evaluations and transition services.
  17. Completes applicable ARD IEP relevant sections.
  18. Completes applicable ARD supplements with accompanying data collected by campus staff (i.e., ESY regression data, all IEPs, Autism Supplement, etc.).
  19. Assists with the completion lists, forms, reports, PEIMS forms, and data required by the Special Education Office by due dates.
  20. Sends all relevant IEP paperwork to the parent after the ARD meeting as relevant.
  21. Maintains updated student audit files and any related documentation to support students’ needs to be in compliance with state requirements. 
  22. Other duties as assigned.
