Position Summary
Thales is looking for a Software Design and Control Systems Engineer to develop and design machine software and collaborate on the design of control systems for newly built custom automation machines, upgrades to our current standard machines, line modifications, and additions.
Regulatory Compliance Requirements
Must be a U.S. Person able to obtain post-hire Moderate Risk Public Trust clearance from the U.S. State Department
Key Areas of Responsibility
Special Position Requirements
Physical Environment: Frequent trips to the manufacturing floor to trouble shoot software bugs on live equipment to validate product, process and quality. It is a active manufacturing environment which requires headsets and protective equipment (safety goggles, steel toed shoes etc).

Software Design and Control Systems Engineer – Identity and Biometric Solutions

Position Summary
Thales is looking for a Software Design and Control Systems Engineer to develop and design machine software and collaborate on the design of control systems for newly built custom automation machines, upgrades to our current standard machines, line modifications, and additions.

Key Areas of Responsibility
- Design, develop and maintain software systems to satisfy documented software requirements (Provide the programming for the PLC and HMI) as well as investigate, analyze, and report software defects to resolve them in a timely manner
- Proactively provide status, raise issues, and communicate necessary information to appropriate team members on a regular basis
- Prepare, present, and participate in technical discussions and code review while maintaining project documentation and assist in creating Machine Operation Manuals
- Core member of the engineering team to collaborate with the design of the following: Electrical schematics, panel layouts, I/O lists, custom cables, cable harnesses, machine hook up drawings and the bill of materials for equipment. These would be documented in AutoCAD Electrical, and/or Solidworks.
- Consult with hardware engineers and other engineering staff to evaluate interfaces between hardware & software and operational & performance requirements of the overall system.
- Main point of contact for software related issues identified on the shop floor, this role troubleshoots software Manage the software build process and manage all software releases issues to ensure a 24/5 operation (may be on call for new machines).
- Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline from an accredited four-year college or university or in lieu of a degree, 6 years of relevant, technical exempt experience as equivalency
- Prior software development experience with Vision systems as well as some Beckhoff twin cat and/or PLC’s coupled with Six Sigma/ Lean Manufacturing experience
- At least 3 years of experience and interest in using scientific rigor leveraging math, analytical and problem-solving skills understand the root cause of issues.
- Excellent analytical skills and ability to act in an entrepreneurial manner to ensure that the software delivered matches the needs of the opportunity.
- Interested in the challenge, excitement, and responsibility of a fast-paced, growth environment; desire and ability to learn and apply new skills and technologies.
