What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Team Lead position at The AMES Companies, Inc.?
The Team Leader for Maintenance is responsible for coordinating people and managing in a rapidly changing priority shop environment, for the distribution facility equipment. Strong skills for hydraulics, millwright and electrical are preferred.
Major Responsibilities
- Train and coach employees of diverse backgrounds and experience to perform complex troubleshooting and repairs including understanding machine requirements, while meeting required production and quality rates
- Coordinate PTO and absence tracking
- Ensure equipment, material, components, and work instructions for areas are correct and available as needed to assure maximum uptime of production
- Manage multiple priorities and complex schedules
- Perform tolerance checks and read blueprints
- Utilize various computer systems (Microsoft Office, COGZ and Mattec)
- Perform routine and complex troubleshooting / problem solving and/or preventative maintenance including, but not limited to, understanding all machine controls, ability to identify and fix the source of most equipment problems
- Perform total preventative maintenance and basic repairs of mechanical and hydraulic systems
- Follow the required standard work and achieve the published standard work and quality goals
- Fill in for the Maintenance Supervisor in his or her absence
- Inspects and tests machinery and equipment for proper operation, wear and repair requirements
- Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machine
- Dismantles defective machines and equipment and installs new or repaired parts
- Installs and repairs electrical apparatus, such as transformers and wiring, and electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment
- Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment
- Installs, programs, or repairs automated machinery and equipment such as robots or programmable controllers
- Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathe, grinder, drill, and milling machine to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and fixtures, and tools
- Operates cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts
- Follow all safety policies and procedures; including, but not limited to wearing all required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Work and communicate in a professional manner with all business associates
- Follow and enforce all Ames True Temper Policies and Procedures
- Initiates and participates in continuous improvement through cost savings, gain sharing and kaizen or other related activities
- Other duties within department as assigned (including, but not limited to initiating, participate, lead and facilitate continuous improvement activities, collect and organize measurements and metrics data, support and cover for supervisor in running floor, etc.)
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Education Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must possess strong basic shop math skills
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Basic computer skills with internet experience
- Strong mechanical aptitude/ability with working knowledge of plastic injection molding machines and related equipment, automated wood turning equipment, stamping presses, press controls, dies and tooling, feeders, straighteners and other equipment pertaining to auto blanking
- Knowledge of TPM methodologies and procedures
- Knowledge of Lean Principles, QDC, 5S and Continuous Improvement Process
Relevant Work Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of TPM methodologies and procedures
- Previous experience troubleshooting and repairing complex systems and equipment preferred
- Knowledge of Industrial Maintenance disciplines
