Lead Baker Overview: We are seeking a baker who is a team player, highly skilled in the art of making artisanal breads and pastries, has a passion for practicing and evolving their craft, and has a desire to take on increased responsibilities as our young bakery/cafe ‘rises’. The idea is for this person to transition into Head Baker with greater management opportunities and obligations.

This is a full-time hourly position at the bakery/café on Main Street, Redwood City, CA.
You will report directly to Brian and Jenna, co-owners and managers. The idea is for this position to transition into Head Baker with all the added benefits, challenges and responsibilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Min. 3 years experience as a Baker or combination Baker’s Apprentice and Baker
- Mis en place, scaling, other prep
- Mixing various doughs and batters
- Pre-shaping, shaping, proofing, baking naturally leavened breads and baguettes
- Laminating and shaping viennoiserie products
- Taking inventory and overseeing ordering and procurement of supplies, managing vendor relationships to ensure timely delivery and cost-effective purchasing.
- Monitor food quality and presentation, adhering to health and safety regulations to uphold cleanliness and sanitation standards- clean up!
- Team player, pitch in where needed
- Authorization to work in the United States
- Current California Food Handlers Certificate, or obtain within 30 days of hire
- Great sense of humor with a large dose of humility
- Curiosity to learn and understand new(er) things
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Fluency in basic math skills and baker’s percentage math
- Ability to stand working for long periods of time, up to 8 hrs
- Ability to lift/push/manipulate items weighing 50 pounds on a regular basis
- Ability to act with composure and grace in fast-paced environment
- Ability to work at least 40 hours per week, including weekends and some holidays
- Ability to display and follow ethical and professional standards set by The Baker Next Door
- Be well groomed and maintain proper hygiene
- Ability to communicate in basic English
- Act with integrity and honesty to promote the culture, values and mission of The Baker Next Door, i.e., create kick-ass products and treat customers and fellow team members with the highest degree of respect and consideration.
