You will be the first in command in the kitchen and will create and inspect dishes before they arrive to the customers, ensuring the highest quality and satisfaction. The Head Chef attracts and retains staff, maintains a cooperative relationship with team members, optimizes staff productivity, and serves as a replacement in team members' absence. You will train staff to use new recipes, cooking techniques and equipment, and oversee cooks performing food preparation. You will oversee the delivery of food supplies, prepare dishes, and supervise overall kitchen operations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Make sure that all kitchen and wait staff adhere to food safety, hygiene regulations and sanitation standards as laid out by state and local regulations, to ensure a clean and sanitary kitchen
- Inspect raw and cooked food items to guarantee that the highest quality products are prepared and served to customers
- Ensure promptness, freshness, and quality of dishes
- Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, and utensils; properly dispose of waste in appropriate receptacles
- Remain knowledgeable about the restaurant menu and make accommodations on individual orders as requested by guests
- Collaborate with the general manager and owner to align kitchen operations with the overarching goals of the establishment
- Hire and train kitchen staff, such as cooks, food preparation workers, and dishwashers
- Obtain feedback on food and service quality, and handling customer problems and complaints
- Set and monitor performance standards for staff
- Work alongside other team members to ensure streamlined service and a commitment to work together to achieve company goals
- Bake, grill, steam and boil meats, vegetables, fish, poultry, and other foods by operating kitchen equipment such as broilers, ovens, grills, and fryers
- Follow recipes, including measuring, weighing, and mixing ingredients
- Handle and store, ingredients, and food
- Execute opening and closing procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Proven experience as Head Chef, in addition to experience as a sous chef or line cook
- Exceptional proven ability of kitchen management and knowledge of workplace safety procedures
- Outstanding communication, time management and leadership skills while working in a fast-paced environment
- Up-to-date with culinary trends and optimized kitchen processes
- Good understanding of useful computer programs (MS Office, restaurant management software, POS)
- Ability to remain productive when pulled in many different directions
- Ability in dividing responsibilities and monitoring progress
- Credentials in health and safety training
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Strong organization and active listening skills
- The ability to work on your feet for most of the day and lift 30 pounds at a time
- Basic reading and writing skills in English
