The Scheduling Assistant is responsible for assisting the Production Manager with tracking, monitoring and expediting the production of parts throughout the shop with the goal to ensure timely shipment of products to Butler Weldments customers. This role involves a basic understanding of capacity planning and the efficient utilization of man hours to meet production goals.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Promote and adhere to the Core Values and Behavior Code.
- Is aware of job status; tracks and monitoring of parts in production.
- Identifies possible roadblocks to the production schedule and assists with determining the appropriate resources to minimize or remove them.
- Works closely with the Production Planning and Procurement departments to keep abreast of upcoming work.
- Seeks to create efficiencies – ie. minimizing part movement, rework, job grouping, etc.
- Works with department leaders and provides excellent communication on needs, priority changes and available time for each department.
- Accurately records and updates both short term (daily / weekly) and long-term (monthly / quarterly) schedules.
- Communicates the needs of the schedule in a manner that is clearly understood by everyone.
- Provides a presence on the shop floor to promote success and assists with recommending solutions before issues escalate.
- Required to wear appropriate PPE as required by job duties.

- Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
Education/Experience:
- Associates or Bachelors’ Degree in Management, preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in a manufacturing or construction environment with schedule-driven responsibility, a plus.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proven written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic knowledge of manufacturing.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- A strong desire to win.
- Capability of developing relationships with individuals at all levels in the organization.
- Ability to think outside the box using uncustomary means of solving complex problems and facilitating ways to assess an issue in a different way.
- Detail oriented.
- Ability to prioritize and multitask based on the organizations’ needs.
- Self-motivated and able to exercise independent judgment and make sound decisions, take ownership/accountability and operate with minimal supervision.
- Integrity, professionalism, discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality are essential.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
This full-time position operates in both a professional office and production environment. Use of computer, telephone and other office equipment throughout the day as needed to conduct business. Physical effort consists of frequent handling of light to average weight and materials and visiting work areas. Work performed requires constant alertness and activity, concentrated mental and visual attention required.
