A. Nursing Department Management
1. Supervise the nurse manager in their role to ensure effective and efficient workflow.
2. Conducts interviews and hires new personnel through the Human Resources Department (HRD)
3. Approves time sheets changes and bi-monthly payroll through Kronos.
4. Performs probationary & annual performance reviews and provides feedback to nursing staff.
5. Directs in the development/revision of department standards and protocols.
6. Provides supportive guidance and direction to nursing staff as needed.
7. Ensures department remains adherent to JCAHO, state licensing, out of state contract and all regulatory agency standards.
8. Supervises nursing administrative assistant in their duties as assigned.
9. Coordinates with nurse manager to develop/implement staff recruitment and retention strategies through HRD.
10. Work with the Medical Director to update medication administration protocols as needed.
11. Coordinate nursing support across programs.
12. Support nurse manager with on-call and cover nurse programming call on an as needed basis.
B. Milieu Management
1. Assist Program Managers with trauma-informed therapeutic best practice treatment milieu.
2. Contributes to the development of behavior management policies and procedures (e.g. points, rewards, level system, etc.)
3. Contributes to the development of the resident’s master treatment plan.
4. Coordinates with the nurse manager to attend weekly treatment team meetings to review progress/problems based on current best practices.
5. Contributes to the development of policies to maintain resident’s rights with respect to group living.
6. Coordinate with nurse manager to ensure therapeutic, age appropriate interactions by nurses with residents at all times. This involves empathy, listening, active interactions, appropriate play, friendly demeanor, building trust, advocating and focus on treatment goals and objectives.
7. Advocate for the residents.
8. Assist with special procedures (seclusions, restraints, etc.) and follow departmental protocol in emergency situations.
9. Visit with residents routinely to promote trust, sense of safety and well-being while they are away from their families.
C. Nurse Supervision & Training
1. Addresses performance deficiencies (e.g. absenteeism, frequent errors, accidents, abuse allegations) per company policy.
2. Holds nurses accountable for the maintenance of a therapeutic environment and use of appropriate behavior techniques.
3. Coordinates with appropriate managerial staff to develop best practice protocols based on Medicaid regulations and JCAHO standards.
4. Stays up to date and current on nursing best practice guidelines.
5. Coordinates with nurse manager to attend and participate in staff meetings to keep nurse’s informed of program issues which affect them.
6. Holds nursing staff accountable for any incident and ESI intervention issues.
7. Review and revises Nursing Manual annually.
D. Quality Assurance
1. Collects and sends data to designated staff in a timely manner for all required data reporting.
2. Analyzes performance via data analysis for ESI’s, IC, PIC indicators, Medication Errors and Adverse Drug Reactions and reports to the Medical Director on ongoing basis.
3. Develops performance improvement strategies based on data analysis.
4. Actively participates in the Quality Assurance, Performance Improvement, Medical Management, and Safety committees.
5. Stays current on Infection Control practices and Safety policy & procedures. Works with the Medical Director to develop updates as needed.
6. Enforces staff adherence to said practices, policies & procedures
7. Ensures the enforcement of corrective action as indicated by QA monitors.
8. Participates in any investigations or any internal/external/regulatory audits as necessary.
9. Completes all inspections and audits (weekly/monthly/quarterly/semi-annually/annually) as required.
D. Contributes to Efficient Operation of Residential Program
1. Maintains patient confidentiality
2. Discusses intra-unit problems with person(s) involved and refers to supervisor if assistance is needed
