JOB SUMMARY
The Aquatics Manger will oversee operations of all aquatic facilities in the department. Under the supervision of the Operations Manager they are responsible for the oversight of McNaughton Spray Park, Ideal Beach, and Pierre Moran Pool. They are responsible for hiring managers and lifeguards for each facility as well as the necessary training. The Aquatics Manager will lead a team of lifeguards, swimming instructors, and support staff, fostering a culture of safety, inclusivity, and exceptional customer service. Must have some availability in April, May, and September and full time availability June through August.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise daily operations of aquatic facilities, including opening and closing procedures, maintenance, and equipment management
- Recruit, hire, train, and supervise lifeguards, swimming instructors, and support staff.
- Conduct regular staff meetings, training sessions, and drills to maintain a high level of preparedness.
- Work with the Operations Manager to monitor sales, expenses, and profits.
- Develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive aquatic program that includes swimming lessons, water fitness classes, and special events.
- Collaborate with the programming team to create engaging activities for various age groups.
- Assist in the development and management of the aquatic budget.
- Monitor expenditures, seek cost-effective solutions, and contribute to long-term planning.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor and manage inventory levels of food, beverages, and other concessions items and communicate to concessions manager.
- Communicate with the Operations Manager about facility issues and concerns.
- Ensure the facility is thoroughly cleaned on a regular basis.
- Plan and coordinate aquatic events, competitions, and community outreach programs.
- Collaborate with marketing teams to promote aquatic programs.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or GED. Some college preferred.
- Must have valid driver’s license.
- Lifeguard certification and Water Safety Instructor certification required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in aquatic facility management.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Knowledge of relevant safety regulations and industry best practices.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Must possess a demonstrated level of ability and experience in areas of oral and written communications.
- Ability to handle cash transactions accurately.
- Customer service experience is a plus.
- Ability to work with people and calm/deescalate tense situations when necessary.
- Must be able to effectively prioritize daily work functions.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND VISUAL SKILLS
- Must have the ability and history of remaining calm and rational when confronted with stressful or volatile situations.
- Must have a positive demeanor when in contact with the public and coworkers.
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work environment is generally performed in an indoor and outdoor setting. Weather conditions change throughout the year so being able to prepare for very cold and very warm climates is a must.
POST OFFER TESTING REQUIRED
- The City of Elkhart is a Drug Free Workplace. Therefore, successfully passing a post offer drug screen is required (random drug testing may be conducted after employment).
- Background checks producing acceptable BMV and criminal history reports required.
