Job Summary: (Role and Mission Summary)
Under direct supervision of the Operations Corporal, and carries out all tasks as assigned by the Corporal, Sergeants, Lieutenant, Chief Deputy and/or Sheriff. Primary responsibilities include courtroom security, prisoner transportation, warrant service and civil process.
Essential Job Functions
1. Provides court room security guarding prisoners in a courtroom and subdues, restrains, and physically removes unruly individuals from a courtroom.
2. Restrains individuals who make or attempt an attack, assault, or an aggressive act against the judge, court personnel, or litigants, and other parties appearing in a courtroom and adjacent areas.
3. Perform all aspects of prisoner transportation as assigned.
4. Service of all types of warrants.
5. Service of all types of papers and performs all processes related to Civil Process including PFA’s.
6. Provides security at public functions as assigned.
7. Provides traffic control as needed.
8. Enforces Pennsylvania Vehicle and Crimes Code.
9. Performs the role of peace keeper during civil disturbances.
10. Assist other Federal, State and Local agencies as assigned.
11. Works various special details as assigned.
12. Performs a full range of operational duties of a Deputy Sheriff as required.
13. Serves as a representative of the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, demonstrating a positive attitude and progressive actions through the display of professionalism, courtesy, and appropriate tact and discretion in all interactions with other employees and the public.
14. Attends and successfully completes all required training as set forth by Pennsylvania Deputy Sheriffs’ Training Commission and successfully completes all in house training.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- A required prerequisite is certification as a law enforcement officer under PA Act 120 or a deputy sheriff under Act 2 or equivalent in other states STRONGLY preferred
License(s) and Certification(s):
- Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license with clean driving record
- Knowledge of use of firearms (NRA/Police Firearms Training will be given at Deputy Sheriff’s training)
- Successful completion of Deputy Sheriff training after hire if required
- Required by CJIS to pass all initial and future security clearances.

- Knowledge of court practices and procedures, and of the techniques which would be useful in maintaining order and security in the courtroom.
- Knowledge of the laws, regulations, standards, policies, techniques, and procedures used in serving legal papers and documents and in conducting criminal investigations and executing warrants.
