Overview
The Elizabeth Hospice temporary HR Generalist provides high-level support to the Chief People Officer, HR Shared Services Manager, and HR Business Partners and their respective client groups to oversee the administration of all human resource activities and policies. HR areas of focus include: compensation, benefits, recruitment, employee relations, learning and development, leaves of absence, workers compensation, job accommodations and health and safety. Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed.
The Elizabeth Hospice is San Diego’s oldest non-profit hospice of 45 years. We are growing and looking for talented individuals to join our high performing team and support our mission. We serve all of San Diego county and south Riverside county with multiple hospice office locations.

This is a temporary position.
Work Schedule: M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Hourly Pay: $30-$32, subject to experience and qualifications.
Location: Fully office based in Escondido, CA
Responsibilities
Oversees the administrative process for recruitment, including but not limited to: preparing paperwork for job postings, posting jobs, screening resumes, conducing phone screens, coordinating and participating in interviews, preparing offers, filing documentation and maintaining accurate record keeping of online recruitment systems.
Manages pre-screening, eligibility determination and other administrative requirements for internal mobility program.
Coordinates several of the new hire onboarding activities, including the collection and review of all required pre-employment documentation, monitoring of electronic onboarding activing and coordinates filing of paperwork.
Creates and revises job descriptions, reviews labor grades and conducts job shadowing as needed..
Provides support to the HR Team in the area of employee relations coaching and counseling. Assists employees and managers on the interpretation and application of organizational policies and procedures, conducts initial review of key documentation.
Conducts employee exit meetings and reports feedback for turnover trending. Conducts exit interviews and 45 day check-ins for new hires and shares results with respective leaders. Identifies trends and make recommendations to reduce turnover and increase engagement.
Provides administrative support for all leaves of absence, Workers Compensation, and job accommodations.
Processes documents necessary for the implementation of various benefits, assists the employees with enrollment and termination of benefits and works to ensure payroll deductions are correctly entered into the HRIS system. Works closely with the company’s benefits and retirement consultants to ensure accurate records and legal compliance.
Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed. Maintains upkeep of handbook and ensures that all policy changes are documented and old policies are archived.
Assists with following up on DMV Pull Program violations with employees and managers in accordance with policy guidelines.
Provides administrative support and conducts research for HR-related training for leadership team or assigned customer groups.
Participates in an internal committee, such as Safety or Wellness.
Provides back-up on employee verification requests.
Participates on HR project teams as needed (i.e. Open Enrollment, Wellness promotions, HR system upgrades).
Maintains current knowledge and understanding of regulations, industry trends, current practices, new developments and applicable California laws regarding human resources.
Provides excellent customer service to candidates and hiring managers.
Acts as back-up for other HR Team members as needed.
Performs other duties as required and assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree plus three (3) years of HR Generalist experience or equivalent education and experience required.
SPHR/PHR and/or SHRM-SCP/SHRM-CP preferred.
Proficiency in all MS Office programs required.
Knowledge of federal, state and local employment–related regulations required.
Requires maturity and experience to interface with all levels of management and staff required.
