The Eye Institute at Boswell Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN)
Reports To: Center Leader / Charge Nurse
Job Description FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the designated Nurse Manager, the Staff Nurse is responsible for professional, direct patient care in the nurse role. The Staff Nurse will utilize the nursing process within their scope of practice to assess, develop nursing diagnosis, develop plan of care, implement plan of care, monitor for effectiveness, and adjust appropriately, for patient’s plan of care. The Staff Nurse is responsible for care, in areas assigned, within the Surgery Center, as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing
- RN with active license, no restrictions (license in appropriate state)
- One (1) year of nursing experience, preferably, in an ambulatory surgery center
- CPR certification and/or ACLS-PALS certification (as required by Center)
- Strong ethical and moral character references
- Basic computer skills
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Obtains and documents patient’s medical history and perform physical assessment
- Uses proper techniques and procedures according to accepted standards of practice and center policies and procedures
- Ability to apply dressings and assess status
- Ability to safely use medical equipment per manufacturer’s instructions for use
- Ability to insert, assess, or discontinue various catheters and tubes
- Effectively organizes and avoids wasteful practices of time, equipment, and supplies
- Observes universal precautions
- Attends all required education
- Regular and predictable attendance
- Performs other duties as assigned
Regulatory/Compliance
- Contributes to the progress and development of the center’s compliance program
- Performs according to accreditation requirements, regulatory standards and center policies and procedures
- Adheres to patients’ rights and responsibilities and supports them in performance of job duties
- Adheres to rules and regulations for Protected Health Information (PHI) and Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability (HIPAA) protections of patient information
Safety
- Adheres to best practices and regulations adopted, to provide safety in the workplace
- Uses surgical safety checklist
- Monitors the Center’s physical environment to ensure the maintenance of safety, comfort, cleanliness, and efficiency
- Monitors the care, cleaning, and required maintenance of equipment to maintain proper working conditions
- Reports observed or suspected safety violations and hazards to the Safety Officer; ensure ongoing policy/procedure compliance
- Adheres to OSHA regulations in performing job duties and responsibilities

- Ability to professionally and effectively communicate patient care needs and significant information to healthcare team to promote continuity of patient care in a clear and concise manner
- Works collaboratively with center leadership on patient and staff scheduling according to policies, procedures, and center needs
- Ability to effectively present information, respond to questions, and professionally interact with physicians, managers, employees, clients, vendors, and the general public

- Delegates staffing duties appropriately to unlicensed assistive personnel and LVN/LPN, accordance with scope of practice and center policies and procedures

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Days and hours of work may vary to meet patient and Center needs
- The Center is a well-lit, ventilated and climate controlled environment. The Center may require decreased lighting to meet patient care needs or procedure requirements, such as laser rooms and some OR/Procedure rooms
- Ability to work with medical and office equipment, some of which will have moving parts
- Noise level is usually quiet to moderate
- May have exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids and materials or toxic chemicals and cleaning solutions
- Work in close proximity to patients, co-workers, and physicians

Pay: $36.00 - $39.00 per hour
