Job Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Surgery Scheduler to join our ophthalmology team. This individual will play a key role in scheduling both office and hospital surgeries, coordinating pre-op and post-op appointments, providing patient counseling, and obtaining insurance authorizations for all surgical procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Schedule office and hospital surgeries, ensuring seamless coordination of pre-op and post-op appointments.
- Provide patient counseling and explain procedures, expectations, and necessary preparations.
- Obtain insurance authorizations for all surgeries, ensuring accurate and timely processing.
- Collaborate with physicians, staff, and patients to ensure smooth scheduling and pre-operative processes.
- Maintain accurate patient and surgical records, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficient in computer literacy, including internet navigation, Excel, and Word programs. Familiarity with software used in ophthalmology practices is a plus.
- Basic understanding of medical terminology, conditions, and medications relevant to ophthalmology care.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively and under pressure.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with patients, healthcare professionals, and the public.
- Knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid, private insurance billing regulations, and experience with CPT and ICD-9 coding, including the use of modifiers.
- Familiarity with HIPAA and OSHA regulations.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods in a typical office setting.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Required experience:
- Graduation from high school or equivalent.
- Experience obtaining authorizations for surgeries.
- Experience in an ophthalmic practice preferred.
