The Media Relations Coordinator is an essential component to the day-to-day operations of The Henry Ford’s Media Relations and Studio Productions team. Working closely with all aspects of the team’s public relations, community outreach and filming initiatives, the Media Relations Coordinator supports members of the Media Relations & Studio Productions team, working with staff from across the institution to compliment and assist with media campaigns and film projects that help grow awareness nationally, regionally, and locally for The Henry Ford. This position assists in all aspects of public relations planning, press announcements, filming, and media events for the institution’s distinct venues, annual programming, community initiatives and its national awareness and positioning.
Essential Responsibilities
• Coordinate on-site film requests, visits, and scouts from outside media crews and act as on-site institute liaison for annual programs, exhibitions, and institutional initiatives.
• Write and distribute press releases for maximum coverage and awareness.
• Provide on-site assistance during national events, press conferences and speaker series.
• Cultivate strong relationships with media outlets and journalists to ensure efficient communication and maximum coverage.
• Schedule press conferences and public events and coordinate interview requests.
• Work with cross-functional teams and assist in the planning of campaigns aimed at increasing brand awareness.
• Collect data regarding the outcome of public relations campaigns and report the findings to management.
• Maintain an up-to-date press list of journalists, influencers, and other members of the media.
• Assists film department with shoots on an as needed basis.
• Serves as a representative of the Media Relations & Studio Productions department.
Your Qualifications
• Experience working in public relations, communications field.
• Demonstrated ability to develop press materials, including (but not limited to) press releases, media advisories, pitches, biographies, etc.
• Working knowledge of media monitoring tools, press databases and distribution channels, and Office suite of products.
Preferred Qualifications & Special Skills
• Bachelor's degree in public relations, journalism, or communications
• Must be flexible in scheduling to accommodate a variety of media visits.
• Must be available to work early/late day as well as weekends and holidays on occasion.
• Comfortable working in and around historic artifacts and collections pieces that have unique protocols.
• Ability to work effectively within a team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
