As a caterer, you get to engage your creative side with new recipes, food arrangements and menus. You'll be asked to multi-task as you prepare all dishes for an event at one time as the attendants are served each meal course by course by hired servers. You provide a tasty, relaxing meal in every situation to ensure that the attendee enjoys their experience at the event. You may also work with clients directly to deal with special requests and create menus for special events. Use your ability to think on the go when working with mobile food prep stations or non-kitchen rooms. A career as a caterer allows you to get out and see the world and the people in it.JOB RESPONSIBILITIESEvent Preparation:Design/create/submit menus for events.Promote/sell the restaurant’s product offeringsConduct advanced tastings and practice runs, as warranted, to ensure client expectations are met.Finalize menu items and head counts before the event.Pull/organize/source equipment and ingredients needed for every menu item/event.Event Management:Schedule/gather/maintain/communicate event detailsTransport & organize the transport of food/tables/items needed to cater events.Ensure all catered events are presented well, and run smoothly and efficiently.Assist with & supervise the clean up of events to guarantee that no items are left behind.Inventory & Equipment Management:Assume responsibility for quality/food safety/sanitation/timeliness of products received/served.Ensure health and safety regulations are strictly observed/recorded/archived.Inspect supplies/equipment/work areas to ensure conformance to standards.Arrange for equipment purchases & repairs (pre-authorize).Catering Management:Lead/coordinate all aspects of catering.Demonstrate new catering techniques and equipment to staff.Recruit/schedule employees to work catering events.Manage all individuals involved with the preparation, cooking, and presentation of catered events to ensure the event goes smoothly and efficiently.Report/communicate production and operation data to superiors.General Management:Establish/keep/enforce accurate procedures & standardized work (collaborate with peers/staff).Cultivate/maintain vendor relations.Use proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation when reviewing and/or editing documents for accuracy and completeness.Maintain confidential information.Shared management philosophy of ownersCost optimization (labor, food…).Peer/supervisor time off coverage.GENERAL JOB DUTIES (all positions):Communicate ideas and information clearly.Work well in stressful and high pressure situations.Willingness to assist in other areas if need.Prioritize, organize, follow directions, and work cohesively with coworkers.Multitask with attention to detail, speed, and accuracy.Bend, stand walk briskly, and be on feet for long periods of time or entire work shift, with occasional environmental exposures to cold, heat, and water.Professional appearance, attitude, clothing, and grooming standards.Transport up to 50 pounds on occasion and up to 35 pounds regularly.Fulfill other roles as needed.Utilize computer/pos, as needed/required for your position.Answer, report, and follow manager and senior employee instructions.Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers.Additional responsibilities, although not detailed, as requested by a manager at any time.Qualifications Required:Excellent organizational and communication skills.Keen eye for detail.Extensive knowledge of the food industry (or willingness to self-teach/learn).Willingness to travel to different places for events.Maintain valid drivers license with clean record & insurance. Preferred:Previous experience in catering or serving.Basic computer skills.Additional InformationSCHEDULE:Must be able to work every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with only occasional weekends off.Hours will vary depending on the scheduled catering events.After hours contact to be expected.Basic computer skills.
