What are the responsibilities and job description for the SOP Specialist position at The Home Depot?
The SOP Specialist will communicate with various business units within Home Depot including international and Subsidiaries in the planning, development and implementation of the standard operations procedures (SOPs) for The Company. The SOP Specialist must be able to manage multiple projects and gain internal cooperation to achieve completion of SOP projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- 25% Partner with all levels of the Company to ensure completion of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all operational areas. Multilevel project management including meeting timelines, acquiring proper approvals and adjusting projects to meet business needs
- 25% Supervise, edit and manage the technical writing of business partners in the production of new and revised SOPs. Determine process improvements needed for functional areas and recommend changes to SOPs and corresponding policies. Subject matter expert in the process of creating effective procedures and creating format, layout, and number system for SOPs
- 10% Responsible for identifying the functional areas and involving them in project reviews and the communication of specific projects between multiple business units. Independent consulting and/or advising business units, associates and management when needed. Communicate SOPs throughout the Company by creating update memos, update highlights, and publishing SOPs on the Company intranet
- 10% Responsible for proactive reviews of SOP material to ensure current processes for all operational areas of the company are reflected, and to partner to make changes
- 10% Perform due diligence for operational areas serving as the subject matter expert by monitoring documents of the Company for conflicts in policy or procedure and proactively responding to any discrepancies or deficiencies by contacting business areas to correct. Perform audits to determine compliance with SOP processes through store visits, on-site audits, customer surveys, and focus group discussions; recommend process improvements needed for compliance with functional areas requirements
- 10% Develop forecast and report out metrics on SOP projects
- 10% Manage translation process of SOPs. Research archives to assist in legal discovery. Use Documentum content management system to design, create and maintain the SOP site and links on the Company intranet to standards and for maximum effect

- Reports to Mgr, Corporate Compliance
- No direct responsibility for supervising others.
Travel Requirements:
- Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent periods are spent standing or sitting in the same location with some opportunity to move about; occasionally there may be a need to stoop or lift light objects (typically less than 8 pounds).

- Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

- Position requires strong project management skills. Ability to supervise and coordinate multiple projects and build consensus and team work on multi department projects
- High level of computer experience required. Knowledge of FrameMaker, Word, Documentum, Excel, Snagit, and Acrobat a must.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, planning and organizational skills, problem solving and analytical skills are critical.
- Experience in developing policies, procedures, manuals or formal documents.
- Ability to work under pressure, multi task, adjusts to changing business needs, and meet deadlines.
- Position requires strong technical writing skills. Should be able to create documents from an adult learning perspective. Must understand style guide and document formatting. Able to tailor message for intended audience.
