Data Engineer

The Data Engineer will coordinate with Data Scientists, Developers and Architects, and Business Leads in recommending and implementing the most efficient and secure data infrastructure that meets both current and future business needs, while preserving the core tenets of our Data Governance standards. What You’ll do:

  • Lead and design efforts at the Institutes to assemble large, complex sets of data that meet non-functional and functional business requirements.
  • Identify, design and implement internal process improvements including re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, optimizing data delivery, and automating manual processes.
  • Build required infrastructure for optimal extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) of data from various data sources using AWS and SQL development frameworks.
  • Build analytical tools to utilize the data pipeline, providing actionable insight into key business performance metrics
  • Work with stakeholders to support their data infrastructure needs while assisting with data-related technical issues.
  • Oversee and mentor development teams to ensure seamless integration of new data delivery technologies and frameworks.
  • Act as technical lead on data centric projects as required to support planning and estimating related to scope and level of effort, and to provide technical input on requirements and feature design. Work with Business Analysts, Project Managers and Product Owners on story breakdown, timeline and roadmap development.
  • Ensure that transactional database systems are API accessible, designed for high availability, and perform within SLAs.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert, leveraging in-depth understanding of Institutes data systems to assist stakeholders, mentor developers, and inform troubleshooting, impact analysis and strategic recommendations.
  • Identify areas where technology or process revision could improve or enhance existing functionality and create project plans to implement approved recommendations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 5-8 years of database programming and/or data science experience.
  • Experience with detailed knowledge of data warehouse technical architectures, infrastructure components, ETL/ ELT and reporting/analytic tools.
  • Experience with Cloud based data warehouse platforms such as Redshift, Snowflake etc.
  • Big Data Distributed systems such as Databricks, AWS EMR, AWS Glue etc.
  • Experience working with multiple Big Data file formats (Parquet, OCR, Arvo)
  • Familiarity with AWS Aurora DB and PostgreSQL is a plus.
