POSITION SUMMARY
As a Smucker People Manager, the Logistics Manager will build and develop direct report(s)/team(s) that deliver results in support of Company strategy through essential day-to-day management strategies and in accordance with company policy and procedures. This role will observe and monitor operating performance and progress toward the established company goals and recommend adjustments to policy to accommodate changes in business climate. The Logistics Manager is accountable for the effective communication and integration of multiple functions of the successful achievement of the plant's goals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for the manufacture of pet foods which comply with all Food Safety, Quality and regulatory requirements. Understanding and supporting The J.M. Smucker, Decatur Safety Program policies and performing work related activities in a safe manner. Recognizing unsafe work conditions and suggesting new safety standards as appropriate
- Leads Logistics Department to execute the following logistics processes to deliver plant financial goals, inventory objectives, customer service levels and department master plan:
- Analyze service and quality metrics
- Inbound appointment scheduling, receiving, and pallet put-away
- Case pick
- Outbound appointment scheduling, pallet picking, case picking, and shipping
- Drop lot management including driver check-in and check-out
- Inventory hold management
- Customer requirement management
- Sanitation and pest control
- Inventory control
- Overages, shortages, and damages
- Raw material ordering, receiving, and invoice reconciliation, finished goods storage, product shipments, case-fill rate and days of supply
- Ensures that the department meets all safety, quality and sanitation standards. Is responsible for the oversight of logistics programs including: forklift maintenance and qualifications, dock and truck safety, and ingredient/product traceability
- Understands production capabilities, operating strategies and daily challenges and their impact on production scheduling and procurement
- Management and execution of all supply chain operating strategies with use of lean methodologies
- Own and maintain the site Business Continuity Plan (BCP)
- Establish strong relationships with Corporate Supply Chain Leaders, Customer Service, Marketing, Purchasing, Transportation, Co-Packers, Suppliers, etc.
- Supply chain resource and support for Memphis daily Operations
- Develop leadership and capability within logistics department, which includes salaried and hourly employees
- Provide leadership and strategic direction in the areas of Finished Product, Raw Materials, and Physical Inventory Management (Inventory Accuracy, Variances, Fill Rates, Delivery Rates, etc)
- Manage Site Level Execution Agreements with suppliers as needed
- Identify root cause & countermeasures for any gaps in results
- Develop & implement cost reduction and work process improvement projects to support site savings initiatives and working capital reduction initiatives
- Master existing planning technology, and support future improvements / upgrades
- Establish continued improvement processes and culture to ensure that supply chain maintains Smucker quality status
- Support and champion site vision as a member of the site leadership team
- Develop and execute a supply chain vision for the site that delivers operational excellence, resulting in world class customer service efficiency
SELECTION CRITERIA
Education
- A Bachelor's degree is required
Experience
- At least 5 years of experience in Supply Chain Management / Logistics Planning / Operations is required
- At least 2 years of experience leading, supervising, or managing others is required
- Prior people management experience in a high-performance work environment is preferred
