Job Overview
The Cleaning Manager oversees NYRA’s Cleaning Operations and supervisory staff to maintain a high-level of cleanliness within the public and private areas of NYRA’s racetracks, dorms and offices at NYRA’s three racing facilities.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions of the Cleaning Manager include but are not limited to the following:
Supervising Staff: Plans and manages the activities of a supervisory staff which is responsible for leading team members to provide a high-level of cleanliness across NYRA’s three racing facilities:
· Manage cleaning functions and supervisory staff daily to ensure all designated areas are clean and well maintained.
· Coordinate work efforts among all supervisors to ensure adequate and complete cleaning operations in all NYRA racing and housing facilities.
· Ensure quality assurance measures are set in all areas of the building and backstretch and that these measures are met or exceeded by all supervisors and staff.
· Review staffing levels to ensure the guest service, operational needs and financial objectives of the department are met.
· Ensure all employees have the proper supplies, uniforms and equipment to complete their jobs daily.
· Communicate areas that need attention to staff and follows up to ensure a thorough job has been completed.
· Respond to requests and complaints that require cleaning services and reporting situations or conditions that require maintenance repairs.
· Emphasizes guest satisfaction during all departmental meetings and focus on continuous improvement and process refinement.
Operations: Plans and manages the administrative activities to support cleaning operations, which involves:
· Direct cleaning supervisors and staff in preparing facilities for the start of each racing season and maintaining building and grounds throughout the year at Aqueduct, Belmont and Saratoga.
· Manage a union and non-union workforce in excess of 75 employees as well as handle labor relations including comprehensive understanding of CBA and MOA language and terms.
· Ensure compliance with all OSHA and other government safety regulations.
· Create appropriate schedules for all shifts beginning and concluding at appropriate times to facilitate all needed cleaning work.
· Ensure an adequate supply of cleaning materials and operating equipment to complete all cleaning assignments.
· Approve the purchases of cleaning materials and supplies. Actively research procurement of innovative equipment and supplies in efforts to boost efficiency.
· Report situations that require maintenance and repairs from other NYRA departments.
· Reviews and authorizes response to special requests for cleaning services.
· Use relevant knowledge and understanding of NYRA’s RFP process in the oversight of subcontracted cleaning company at Saratoga Race Course.
Administrative: Oversee and assist in numerous administrative activities to support cleaning operations, which involves:
· Manages financial performance, record-keeping and serves as the department’s liaison with human resources.
· Manages training and on-boarding of new hires, while understanding the benefits, compensation, workers compensation and unemployment issues necessary to complete work within the department.
· Ensures property policies are administered fairly and consistently and that disciplinary procedures and documentation are completed according to policy.
· Responsible for monitoring P&L and assisting in the budget development process.
· Monitors inventory and periodic ordering of supplies for each track and create itemized listings for requisitions and annual vendor contract bidding.
· Approval of payroll on a weekly basis using WFM.
· Scheduling of all employees to meet CBA requirements and business needs.
Qualifications
Education (minimum): Bachelor’s Degree, Associates or Some college preferred and/or the equivalent education or work experience.
Experience: 5-7 years management experience in a cleaning services, housekeeping, or facilities management department.
Other Requirements: A self-starting, goal-oriented, strong motivator of others. Must have a hands-on style of managing others, thorough knowledge of cleaning procedures, and the ability to assess the range of abilities workers. Ability to work a racing schedule: Wednesday to Sunday including some holidays.
Annual Pay Range: $75,000 - $85,000
