The Oar House in Portsmouth NH has been a local favorite for over 49 years. Featuring multiple dining rooms, a lounge, and a large deck over the Piscataqua River we are an upscale dining destination for locals and tourists alike.

We are seeking an experienced and professional Head Chef to join our team!

This position involves managing and supervising kitchen employees, training new employees, planning and managing food prep, creating specials, controlling food cost/waste, ordering and inventory, food preparation, and cooking on the line.

The ideal candidate has several years of experience in the kitchen, including: cooking, inventory, managing employees, scheduling, and menu creation. You should have an understanding of the various positions on the line, can work well and multi-task under pressure, and have the ability to work as a part of a team. You should be comfortable working in a fast paced, high volume, high quality restaurant.

As the Head Chef, you will be responsible for the overall operation of the kitchen including the development of menus and specials, participating in the hiring and training of employees, ordering supplies, scheduling kitchen staff, and providing a high quality guest experience. You should also be comfortable with practicing and enforcing proper food storage safety, allergy awareness, compliance with health code, and all other safety procedures including inspecting, cleaning, and maintaining food prep areas, to ensure safe and sanitary food-handling practices.

Qualifications:

Culinary school helpful, but not required

5 years experience cooking

3 years experience in a supervisory role

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Available nights, weekends, holidays
